Chapter 623

Jennie knew that Ulric was waiting for her answer. In just a few minutes, she thought of all the humiliation she had suffered over the years because of Halcyon’s suppression of malicious doctors, including her husband who had been sentenced to death.

However, then she thought of Regina as a cute and sweet little girl. She often despised Regina for being stupid, but that didn’t mean that she didn’t love Regina.

She had never given up on Regina, though Regina had no talent in medicine and never had the potential to be a malicious doctor.

If that hadn’t been the case, she wouldn’t have gone through so much trouble to get Regina to pretend to be the miracle doctor and go to First Hospital to train.

The pressure was driving Jennie crazy. She couldn’t make a choice.

Just as she was in extreme torture, Ulric’s voice came. “Ms. Taylor, do you think that Regina will be fine if you do nothing?” he said faintly.

Jennie froze. Then Ulric continued, “When the time comes, you will also be in trouble. However, if you want to die with her, of course, you can sit back. I will erect a monument for you and name it The Mother’s Love.”

Jennie gritted her teeth and clenched her fists tightly.

The only official sentence for malicious doctors was death. Jennie thought, ‘I can’t die. I promised my late husband that I would revive malicious doctors. The plan has yet to begin. I can’t die just like that.’

Gritting her teeth, she finally said, “I’ve made up my mind, Mr. Swanson. However, even a mosquito can’t enter the base of the Special Task Force. Before the matter is settled, they won’t let anyone visit. I’m afraid I won’t have the chance to do anything.”

Ulric’s thin lips curved into a smile. “I didn’t misjudge you, Ms. Taylor. Don’t worry. I’ll find a chance for you. You just have to do it. As long as you do a good job, I’ll agree to your grand plan. Also, as you heard, the ones who sent your daughter in are Melody and Ken. As long as you serve me honestly, I will avenge your daughter for you.”

Jennie nodded and said, “Thank you, Mr. Swanson.”

At the same time, Ken brought Melody to Blue Moon Lounge for dinner. It was still the same private room as last time. Moon was as welcoming as ever and even gave her a bracelet.

At a glance, Melody knew the bracelet must have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. She was surprised and stood up to decline politely. “Moon, I can’t accept such an expensive gift.”

Moon smiled, put the bracelet on her wrist, and said, “It’s not for nothing. Didn’t you promise me something last time? Consider it a thank-you gift.”

Melody suddenly remembered it. Moon had asked her to take care of Ken in the future because Moon had a terminal illness. To reassure Moon, Melody could only accept the bracelet.

“Thank you,” Melody said.

“You deserve it,” Moon replied.

Coincidentally, there was a mistake in the kitchen. The waiter came over and called Moon to help out.

Moon winked at Melody and sashayed away. Melody couldn’t help but wonder if she really had a terminal illness.

However, she thought that Moon had no reason to lie to her. Moreover, normal people would not make such a lie. So Melody put away her doubts and thought that Moon was pretending to be strong. After all, heavy makeup could indeed hide one’s complexion.

As soon as Moon left, Ken asked, “What did you promise her?”

Melody smiled and said, “Nothing. It’s just something between girls. You shouldn’t ask about it.”

Ken nodded and reminded her, “She’s not like others. Don’t be bribed by a bracelet. If you have any difficulties, just tell me. Don’t worry about her.”

“I don’t have any difficulties.” She promised Moon that she would keep the secret. Melody was afraid that Ken would ask more questions, so she quickly changed the topic. “When Regina was taken away, she mentioned Ulric. I wonder if she can drag him down with her.”

She and Ken had reached a consensus on how to deal with Ulric since the fire at the youth center. Ulric was an evil man and always got away.

Even before that fire, Ken had never taken Ulric seriously. Ken continued to stay in the Swanson family only to take back his mother’s Pearly Antiques.

‘But now looks like that guy doesn’t deserve to live at all, Ken thought.

As long as Ulric was still alive, countless people would be in trouble. People like Sid that Ken cared about would be in danger, so Ken changed his mind afterward. However, Regina alone couldn’t guarantee Ulric’s fall.

“You don’t know him well enough. His foundation won’t be affected by such a small incident. However, it will leave him with a less important place in his father’s heart. That’s a good thing. Then this is not a waste of time,” Melody said.

Melody wanted to tell Ken that she knew Ulric much better than him.

But then she thought, ‘Back then, I gave Ulric all my love but he always kept me in the dark. As an outsider, Ken sees things much clearer than me.’

She might not know Ulric as well as Ken, so she grunted with mixed feelings.

Ken frowned when he saw that she was not in a good mood. “What’s your relationship with Ulric? Why do you look so upset every time he’s mentioned?” Ken asked.

He had long wanted to ask this question but he just couldn’t do it. Whenever he remembered that Ulric was supposed to marry Melody, he found it even harder to ask it.

“What relationship can we have?” Melody pretended to smile and said, “If there is anything, then he is my enemy.”

Ken looked at her deeply and said with a strange expression, “You’re not good at lying. But it doesn’t matter. When you want to say it, I’m here for you.”

Melody opened her mouth but did not say anything in the end.

‘Rebirth is something people refuse to believe. If I say it out loud, he will take me for a lunatic. If I tell others and they believe it, I’ll end up worse. The authorities will take me and have me dissected. So I should keep this secret to myself,’ Melody thought.

“By the way, there’s one more thing I think it’s better to tell you.” As Ken spoke, he naturally picked up a chicken wing and placed it on her plate. If Melody refused it, it would make her look like she was making a fuss.

She forked the chicken wing and asked, “What is it?”

“Do you still remember Pamela?”

“Of course, Mabel’s follower. However, after the incident with the stall owner from the black market, her relationship with Mabel also

became distant.” Melody paused and asked, “Is there any movement from the Clark family?”

Melody had ruined the collaboration between the Clark family and the Swanson Group and slapped Pamela’s face time and time again. Troy and Pamela would let her off easily.

However, she had not heard from Troy and Pamela for too long. If Ken had not mentioned them, she would not have thought of them.

Ken nodded and said, “Yes, Troy is making a move.”
