Chapter 700

“After that meal, I’ll have a sister!” Lucas exclaimed.

Lucas, who had always been the only child in his family, had longed for a sibling.

When he found out that his parents planned to make Melody their goddaughter, he was overjoyed. Now, he could finally proudly tell others that he had a sister who was an amazing doctor.

Melody scratched her head, embarrassed. “Dr. Morgan was probably just joking. Don’t take it seriously. Even if I’m not your sister, you can always come to me if you’re sick. But, of course, it’s best if you stay healthy.”

“No!” Lucas insisted seriously. “My parents aren’t joking. They’ve even discussed which guests to invite to the official adoption ceremony.”

Melody was stunned. She hadn’t expected Ander and his wife to take the idea so seriously.

In no time, they arrived at the entrance of Zoe’s laboratory.

Lucas said, “Melody, you can go ahead and get to work. I can’t enter my mom’s lab without her permission, so I’ll wait for you outside. We can have dinner together when you’re done.”

Melody quickly replied, “There’s no need for dinner. I need to head back to Herbathrive right after the test. We’re expecting a lot of job applicants today.”

“Alright,” Lucas said, though he sounded disappointed. “Once I’m fully recovered, I’ll come to Herbathrive to see you.”

“Okay.” Melody nodded and entered the laboratory with a cage covered by a black cloth.

She was familiar with the lab, having been there before, and quickly found the equipment she needed. She then removed the black cloth covering the cage, revealing several lively white mice.

“Sorry, little guys, but I might need to use you to save someone else’s life. Maybe in your next life, don’t be lab rats. Actually, life as a human isn’t easy either. Let’s just leave it to fate.” Melody muttered to herself for a couple of minutes before focusing on her research.

About half an hour later, using the lab equipment, Melody identified all the ingredients in the powder. It was a mixture of ground poisonous herbs combined with other toxic substances.

At first glance, the poison seemed ordinary. But after testing it on the mice, Melody’s expression darkened.

The poison was similar to the one Jennie had used on Wendell. Once it completely corroded a person’s body, it left no trace of toxicity behind. Even the most thorough autopsy wouldn’t detect it.

This colorless and odorless poison was terrifyingly effective, disappearing without a trace once it had done its work.

If Jennie had developed this poison on her own, her abilities would have been far more dangerous than Melody had anticipated.

Jennie wasn’t just any malicious doctor. Before the suppression of malicious doctors, Jennie might have been a leader among them.

Melody’s eyes narrowed as she carefully sealed the remaining powder in a bag and left the Morgan estate with the cage.

On the way back, she frowned, making Spencer increasingly anxious, wondering what happened. Spencer didn’t dare to ask what was wrong but drove with heightened caution.

Soon, they arrived at Herbathrive.

Melody first checked on Seventeen, who was still

recovering in bed. Satisfied with his progress, she returned to the front hall.

Herbathrive was still on holiday, so aside from Seventeen and Talia, who was also there, the clinic was unusually quiet, a silence that Melody still hadn’t gotten used to.

Fortunately, the group of doctors and nurses Melody had arranged to meet the day before arrived quickly.

“Miss Fox, we’re here!” they exclaimed.

Melody nodded and asked, “Is everyone here?”

The assistant doctor spoke up first. “Two people couldn’t make it. They decided to interview at Central Hospital instead. So there are just the five of us.”

Melody nodded in understanding. “Modern medicine and traditional medicine are quite different. Working here would be like starting from scratch. If any of you are having second thoughts, it’s okay to say so now. I respect your decisions.”

The five of them shook their heads in unison. “No, Miss Fox. We’re here because we sincerely want to work at your clinic,” one said.

Another added, “Yes, Miss Fox. We were amazed when we saw you use traditional medicine to stop Mr. Sid’s bleeding. It made us want to learn traditional medicine and transition from modern medicine.”

The assistant doctor added, “I want to be well-versed in both fields and become a doctor who can truly save lives like you do.”

Seeing their sincerity and determination, Melody took out the employment contracts.

“Alright then. You can start in two days. You already know some pharmacology. Traditional and modern medicine may have different roots, but they share the same purpose. You’ll adapt quickly. I’ll arrange for some people to guide you,” said Melody.

“Thank you, Miss Fox!”

Melody smiled. “No need to thank me. We’re colleagues now. You’re all older than me, so just call me Melody.”

“Yes, Miss Fox,” they answered.

Melody sighed, realizing it would take time for them to get used to calling her by her first name. She decided to let it go for now.

After chatting a bit longer, the group left with the traditional medicine books Melody had given them.

Once they were out of sight, Melody was about to close the door to Herbathrive when her phone rang. It was a call from David.

“Hello? David, what’s up?”

But an unfamiliar voice answered, “This guy works for you, right? He broke the most expensive bottle of wine here. Come pay for it now, or we’ll break his hand!”

Melody’s voice turned cold. “Who are you? Where is David?”

“He’s in my bar, Lose Demon. If you’re not here in thirty minutes, I’ll break his hand!” answered the other person.

As a doctor, Melody knew how important hands were. Melody quickly tried to calm the person down. “I’ll cover whatever he broke, just don’t hurt him.”

“You’ve got 29 minutes.”

I’m on my way.

Melody hung up and was about to leave when Talia hurried after her, calling out, “Miss Fox, I just got a call from David.

“I got one too. Don’t worry. I’ll handle it,” Melody said.

“Should I go with you? It might be better to have another person with you.”

“No.” Melody shook her head. “Seventeen still needs care, and it could be dangerous. If you come, I’ll have to worry about you too.”

Realizing she might be a burden, Talia nodded. “Alright. I’ll wait at the clinic for you both to come back safely.
