Chapter 703
When Reece saw Melody’s cold, emotionless eyes, his whole body tensed up. He shuddered, pulled his neck in, and quickly retreated to the private room.
Melody sneered in disdain, ignoring Reece, and led David out of the bar.
Outside, David looked at the sign of the Lose Demon Nightclub and then up at the bright sunlight. It felt like he had been through a lifetime.
“Miss Fox,” he mumbled, hanging his head in shame. “I’m sorry. I’ve caused you trouble again.”
He had heard Reece mention the daughter of the Webb Group. Although David didn’t know much about them, he could tell she wasn’t someone to take lightly. He felt guilty.
But just as David braced himself for Melody’s scolding, she asked with concern, “Have you eaten?”
David was taken aback and shook his head instinctively. No.”
“Not even breakfast?”
“I didn’t eat.”
Melody sighed. Realizing it was lunchtime, she simply said, “Let’s grab some lunch nearby first. We can talk after we eat.”
David nodded obediently and followed behind Melody.

Meanwhile, in a high-end restaurant, a group of well-
dressed socialites was enjoying an elegant meal. Mabel sat at the center, surrounded by compliments and flattery. “Mabel, I always knew you’d marry into a wealthy family. Once you become the Swanson family’s daughter-in-law, don’t forget us!”
“Yes, Mabel. My family’s business deal with the Swanson Group is still pending. I’ll be counting on you!”
Though Mabel felt pleased with the attention, she tried to remain composed. “It’s too early to talk about that.”
“Too early? You’re the first girlfriend Mr. Ulric has acknowledged publicly. Who else could be the future Mrs. Swanson?”
Mabel couldn’t help but feel smug, but a lingering unease gnawed at her.
Ulric had been detained by the police for investigation and hadn’t been released yet. The Swanson family had kept the news under wraps, so no one knew. But if Ulric didn’t get out soon, the truth would eventually spread, and the flattery would vanish.
Mabel’s emotions were conflicted. Pride mingled with anxiety.
Just then, one of the socialites spoke with a sly smile, Mabel, I heard your mother passed away in prison. It’s tragic, but seeing you here with us, I’m a bit relieved. When the funeral date is set, I’ll be there to help.”
At the mention of Mabel’s mother, Yolanda, everyone suddenly remembered her imprisonment. Even in death, this was a stain on Mabel’s life.
Mabel’s smile faltered.
She shot a glare at the woman who had spoken. As her best friend,” this woman had once had feelings for Ulric, so Mabel suspected she was speaking out of jealousy.
Though they called each other friends, none of them wanted to be overshadowed.
Mabel clenched her teeth, then quickly put on a sorrowful expression. “My mother was framed by my stepsister and sent to prison. She was depressed and fell ill. Sabrina, do you really need to bring up my pain to feel good?” The woman, Sabrina, frowned and forced a smile. “Mabel, you misunderstood me. I’m just concerned about you.” Mabel didn’t respond, giving Sabrina a cold stare instead.
Sabrina awkwardly continued, “So your mother was killed by your sister? How awful!”
Rumors about Yolanda’s imprisonment were rampant, with the most common one being that Yolanda had tried to harm Maria and was arrested for it.
Hearing Mabel’s words, no one dared to contradict her, especially not with Ulric involved. They all joined in criticizing Melody.
Only then did Mabel’s mood improve, but she still pretended to be sad. “That sister of mine, if you ever run into her, steer clear. She’s not easy to deal with. If she was, my mother wouldn’t have died because of her.”
Just as Sabrina was about to comment, her phone rang.
“Sorry, I need to take this.”
She got up and left the room.
On the other end, Reece exaggerated his encounter with Melody, detailing how she had beaten him up. “I told her you’re my girlfriend, but she said you’re nothing. I can’t stand it, but I can’t beat her either. I’ve got someone following her. Sabrina, you’ve got to stand up for me!”
Back in the private room, the conversation shifted as soon as Mabel left.
One of the young women, eager to curry favor, whispered, Did you hear? Her boyfriend’s just a thug, not at all respectable.”
“A thug? Was that him on the phone just now?”
“She didn’t even answer it in front of us. Must be.”
“Tsk, I thought she had high standards. Turns out she’s nothing special.”
“How ridiculous. She’s dating a thug and still dares to look down on our Mabel. She’s nothing compared to her.”
At that moment, Sabrina returned with a dark expression.
“Ladies, something’s come up at home. You go on without me-I have to leave.”
Everyone smiled politely. “Alright, take care.”
Sabrina forced a smile and hurried out. As soon as she was outside, she called back.
“Where are you? I’m coming to see you now.”
“I’m at the bar. Sabrina, you’ve got to get justice for me!”
Her mood already ruined by Mabel, Sabrina was eager for a confrontation. “I’ll meet you there and settle the score with that bitch!”
“Okay, I’ll be waiting!”

At the Blue Moon Lounge, which was just five minutes from the Lose Demon Nightclub, Melody brought David inside.
Moon had reserved the same private room from before and greeted them with a smile. “Where’s Ken?”
“She’s at work. By the way, this is my colleague from the medical center.”
Moon smiled warmly at David. “Hello! Please take care of Melody at the medical center.”
David, unfamiliar with such a high-end place, nodded nervously.
“Enjoy your meal,” Moon said, sensing David’s discomfort and tactfully leaving them alone.
“Miss Fox…” David said hesitantly, looking at the table full of delicious food. “Aren’t you going to scold me?”
Melody pointed at the food. “Let’s eat first.”
David nodded and began eating.
After the meal, Melody asked, “So, why did you go to that nightclub when you don’t usually go to bars?”
