Chapter 723

Nyla suddenly remembered the first principle of being a death warrior: never disobey your master’s orders. What she had just done was seriously violating this principle. However, at the same time, she remembered that when she mentioned that she did not want to take on a long-term international mission, Ken agreed and did not say anything about punishing her.

She couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Why is this time different?’ The words James had said came to her mind. Her eyelashes fluttered, and her eyes were filled with disbelief.

‘Is Melody really more important to Mr. Swanson than me?’ Nyla guessed. The answer was already written on the contract.

“No!” Nyla held the contract tightly and said, “I’m not leaving. Mr. Swanson, you can’t chase me away.”

What else could she do if she left the team of death warriors and Ken? She was already used to being one of them and could not return to a normal life.

“According to the previous contract, I shouldn’t have kept you alive for violating the first principle. But on account of your many years of hard work, I’ve given you everything you deserve. Do you have any other questions?” Ken asked.

The look in Ken’s deep eyes was so cold that it cut her deeply. She said, “I’m not leaving, even if you chase me away…

“In that case…” Ken opened a drawer and took out a black pistol.

“There’s a bullet in it, James. Find a quiet place and say goodbye.”

Hearing this, Nyla froze. James could not bear to do it. After all, Nyla was like a younger sister to him.

James hurriedly reminded Nyla, “What are you waiting for? Kneel and tell Mr. Swanson that you’re willing to follow Miss Fox and die protecting her.”

Ken did not say anything. He was also giving Nyla one last chance, Nyla’s eyes were filled with tears as she gritted her teeth. She was always stubborn and years of pampering made her unable to say such a thing:

She suddenly clenched her fists and said, “Even if I die, I will never leave you. And I will never protect that woman.”

Nyla was betting that Ken would not take her life. After following him for so many years, she believed he cared about her life,

“You…” Ken paused and finally looked Nyla in the eye.

After two seconds of silence, he leaned back in his chair and said, “James, what are you waiting for? You want me to terminate your contract too?”

Nyla’s heart sank. This meant that Ken did want her dead.

For a moment, Nyla collapsed to the ground, heartbroken. James did not dare to disobey Ken and lifted her up.

“Take care of her funeral,” Ken said.

It took James a moment to answer, “Yes.” James gritted his teeth and dragged Nyla away.

Soon, they arrived at a remote wilderness. It was not until James pointed the gun at her that she recovered from her extreme despair.

James sighed deeply. “Why did you have to come to this? Miss Fox is not as annoying as you think.”

The death warrior had undergone strict and professional training. They were never afraid of death. Nyla laughed and said, “James, it’s too late to talk about this. Do it.”

“Do you have any last words?”

“Don’t tell my brother. Just say that I’m on a long-range mission,” Nyla said as she closed her eyes.

If she lost the bet, she had to pay. The next second, a gunshot pierced through the air.

Nyla was stunned. She didn’t feel the pain that she had expected but the ringing in her ears. She looked at James in disbelief. His gun was aimed at the sky.

“James?” she asked.

James turned around and said, “From now on, Nyla is dead. I will bury her well.” With that, he drove away.

Nyla stood rooted to the ground in a daze until the car completely disappeared from her sight. She looked down at her hands. Her palms were covered in cold sweat.

It turned out that no matter how harsh the training was, one would still feel fear when faced with death. Nyla wiped her sweat and slowly clenched her fists.

‘Since Nyla is dead, I can do whatever I want now. The first thing I have to do is find a way to get rid of that woman, she thought. Nyla stood on the spot for a while and quickly disappeared into the wilderness.

In the meantime, Aaron arrived at the Swanson Group’s headquarters and finally got through to James.

“James, Nyla seems to have gone to look for Mr. Swanson. I wonder how she is now? Have you seen her?” Aaron asked.

James’s hand holding the phone paused for a moment. Then, he tried his best to say in a calm tone, “Yes.”

“Mr. Swanson isn’t mad at her, is he?”

Following Nyla’s “last words”, James replied, “Mr. Swanson has sent her on a long-term mission. I’m afraid she won’t be back for a few years.”

Aaron heaved a sigh of relief and said, “Got it. Sorry to disturb you.”

“It’s fine. You should also do your job well. You must keep Miss Fox safe.”

“Yes!” Aaron hung up the phone. The nervousness on his face slowly faded, but he was still a little disappointed.

Usually, those who did long-term missions were either newbies or members who made small mistakes.

‘Looks like Mr. Swanson is angry. Fortunately, a long-term mission is a rather light punishment. It’s good to let her temper herself over the next few years. With her personality, it’s too dangerous to be a death warrior. It’s easy for her to make mistakes, Aaron thought.

Aaron turned around and drove towards the manor. When he saw Melody, Melody was making soup.

This was a specialty soup with more than ten types of herbs. Her exquisite seasoning technique made it impossible for people to tell the flavors of the herbs. They would think that it was creamy vegetable turkey soup.

No matter how one looked at her, they would think she was an ordinary woman. The only thing unusual about her was her face covered in red spots.

‘But since she is so ordinary, why did Mr. Swanson send us to protect her?’ Aaron wondered. He couldn’t figure it out. Melody saw Aaron peak standing at the door from the corner of her eye. She turned her head and instructed the kitchen staff, “Stew it for a while longer. Put some onions in before serving.”

“Yes,” the staff answered.

After that, Melody left the kitchen and asked Aaron, “Are you sure Nyla won’t come?”

“Yes.” Aaron lowered his head and said, “Mr. Swanson suddenly needed people for a long-term mission. This mission is very important. Coincidentally, Nyla was there, so Mr. Swanson sent her.”

Melody had heard Spencer mention long-term missions. This kind of mission usually involved death warriors lurking around an important person. So Nyla would not return for three to five years. It was a very difficult job.

‘Looks like Nyla has been reprimanded by Ken and sent to take on a long-term mission as a punishment. Melody only thought of this.

She nodded lightly and said, “That’s not bad. Long-term missions can sharpen one’s character. When she comes back, she’ll probably be much more mature.”

Aaron lowered its head even more. “Yes, I have spoiled her.

I hope you’re not mad at her.”

“I’m not. I won’t take it to heart. Alright, I’ll go back and get busy.” With that, Melody returned to the kitchen.

The smell of the kitchen on her body made Aaron even more certain that she was nothing but an ordinary woman.

He thought, ‘She seems a little smart but it’s not worth mentioning. I think Mr. Swanson asked us to protect her only because she is his wife in name.’
