Chapter 724
Aaron stood on the spot for a while before he turned around and left the villa. He hid in a corner with Spencer.
“Aaron,” Spencer whispered.
“Yes.” Aaron nodded. The two of them did not communicate anymore, as if they had become part of the darkness.
It was dark. Ken finally got in the car back to the manor. “Have you taken care of everything?” Ken asked, staring at the tablet in his hands as if he was talking to himself.
James grunted and started pretending. He revealed a sad expression and said, “Everything has been taken care of. She’s buried in the Southern Hill Cemetery.”
Ken nodded. He thought this was the path Nyla had chosen herself, and he had been lenient, considering her many years of faithful service.
If it were any other death warriors who disobeyed his orders in front of him and even looked down on Melody, they would not have died so easily.
In the driver’s seat, James tried his best to believe how he would react if Nyla really died.
After thinking for a few seconds, James followed his usual behavior and asked, “Mr. Swanson, I remember that Nyla also disobeyed orders in the past and said that she did not want to participate in a long-term transnational mission. Why this time… Did you have to…”
Ken looked out of the car window and said expressionlessly, “Because I was convinced that she was not suitable for that mission.”
The veins on James’s forehead bulged as he frowned hard. So Mr. Swanson’s original intention was to send another death warrior to the mission. It was not that Nyla was allowed to disobey his orders, right?’ he thought.
James then wondered how Nyla would feel if she knew the truth. He did not mention Nyla again. It was silent in the car.
Soon, Ken returned to the manor. The moment he entered, he smelled the aroma of the food. The dishes hadn’t been served. The aroma was coming from the kitchen.
He looked around and did not see Melody. He walked straight to the kitchen. The kitchen staff had never seen Ken appear here, so they immediately became nervous. Unlike them, Melody’s expression did not change at all. When she saw Ken, she only said, “You’re back?” Then she went back to work.
When the kitchen staff saw Melody’s reaction, they were worried for her. In their eyes, Ken was unapproachable, so she should have talked to him like this. They knew Melody was his wife, but her behavior was still inappropriate.
However, in the next second, they were all dumbstruck. Not only was Ken not angry at all, he even walked behind Melody and asked, “What are you doing?”
“Making grilled crab legs,” Melody said as she drizzled mayonnaise on the crab legs on the plate. Finally, she put the crab legs above the fire until the mayonnaise bubbled slightly. Only then did she turn off the fire.
The beautiful and delicious grilled crab legs were presented. Even Ken, who did not have much desire for food, almost drooled when he saw it.
He forgot about his status and nimbly pulled up the sleeves of his white shirt. “Is there anything else you want to do? I’ll help,” Ken offered.
“No, it’s almost done. Go and ask your grandma to come down for dinner,” Melody replied.
“Alright.” Ken did not hesitate or resist. He turned around and walked out.
After Ken left, the kitchen staff looked back at Melody, their eyes filled with flattery.
“The soup is good to serve. Turn off the gas. Remember to add onion before serving the dishes. There’s nothing else.
Put everything on the plate,” Melody instructed.
“Yes,” everyone replied in unison. Their attitude was extremely respectful. Then Melody raised her eyebrows slightly, untied her apron, and walked out of the kitchen.
One of the benefits of bribing the kitchen staff was that if Astrid wanted to tamper with the food, someone would come to Melody in private to report for the sake of his future.
A few days ago, James boldly changed the servants in the manor. Only the kitchen staff stayed the same. This was also one of Melody’s orders.
If every servant was replaced, Astrid would find a way to plant more people in the manor. However, if a few original servants stayed, she would probably not be in such a hurry to do that.
Before long, Ken helped Margaret downstairs. Margaret looked good, but there was still a worried look on her face. The incident of her second grandson had dealt a heavy blow to her. Margaret would probably not be able to recover from her disappointment for a while.
Fortunately, when Margaret saw the table full of exquisite dishes, her eyes finally lit up. “So many… Melody, did you make all of them?”
Melody smiled and only said, “Sit and try them. See if it’s to your liking.”
Margaret nodded and took her fork anxiously. The first thing she tasted was the grilled crab legs that Melody made last.
The crab legs were cooked just right. Margaret liked the texture and the fresh and sweet taste. The mayonnaise was slightly salty and fragrant after being roasted. The combination of salty and sweet tastes brought the best satisfaction to the taste buds.
Margaret loved seafood. After eating one, she praised it and immediately went to pick up a second one.
Melody was humble, but Ken would not let go of the opportunity to make Margaret like Melody even more.
So he said, “Grandma, try other dishes. Melody cooked them all herself. I’ve been impressed by her culinary skills. Even chefs at five-star hotels want to learn from her.”
Although this was a compliment, it was true. The two Michelin-starred chefs in the kitchen indeed wanted to study under Melody. They had learned a lot of skills from her.
Margaret nodded in satisfaction and went on to try the chicken potpie. There were three main ingredients in the pie: chicken, potato, and mozzarella.
Margaret had bad teeth, so these three ingredients were cooked very soft but not to the point of ruining the taste. The delicious pie that melted in her mouth instantly made Margaret’s eyes light up.
Then, there were chili garlic butter shrimp, fresh oysters, and so on. Every single one of them was mouthwatering. Margaret couldn’t stop praising Melody. “Melody, with your cooking skills, it’s a pity that you don’t open a restaurant.” Melody heaved a sigh of relief and replied, “It’s good that you like them. I was worried that you wouldn’t like them.”
“Why? I’ve been wanting you to cook for me since the first time I tried your dishes.”
“Then I’ll cook for you more often when I’m free.”
“Great, I’ll be so happy to enjoy it,” Margaret said.
Ken said at the right time, “Grandma, the company wants to expand into the food business next quarter. I’m
considering letting Melody take on this project. Do you think it’s okay?”
“Yes, no one can’t be more suitable for this job. She has superb culinary skills and is meticulous and down-to-earth. Since the company has this plan, let her do it,” Margaret answered.
“Then Dad-“
“There’s no need to tell him. I have the final say on this.” Ken smiled. “Melody, come and thank Grandma.”
Melody’s original intention was not to obtain that project. She just wanted to cook a few dishes to return Ken’s favor. But it was a good thing to cut a deal now.
“Thank you, Margaret. I’ll do a good job,” Melody said.
