Rosalynn had meant to say she came to see Maggie, but noticing the cat, she rephrased.
The cat was Karl's and was currently left in Maggie's care.
Rosalynn's gaze lingered on the creature, her thoughts swirling. Karl's feelings for Maggie were so obvious. He wouldn't leave his cat with just anyone.
But, unfortunately for Karl, Maggie didn't seem to reciprocate his affection.
Rosalynn sighed inwardly, feeling a twinge of sympathy for him.
"Have a seat," Maggie said quickly, moving to shoo the cat off the couch.
She tidied up the cushions and gestured for Rosalynn to make herself comfortable.
Rosalynn hesitated briefly. She adored cats, but given her pregnancy, she knew it was best to keep her distance.
Reluctantly, she sat down on the couch, resting her hands on her growing belly. She accepted the glass of water Maggie offered her, taking a sip.
Just as Rosalynn opened her mouth to speak, a sudden noise erupted from Maggie's computer.
Rosalynn's ears perked at the faint sound, drawing her gaze toward the computer screen. A tiny bear with a wiggly, chubby bottom was performing an animated jig across the display.
It must be some computer trickery, she mused, one brow arching in recognition.
It was unmistakably Karl's handiwork.
Rosalynn leaned closer, intrigued by what her tech-savvy friend had cooked up this time.
As if on cue, the bear stopped its dance and began speaking in an adorably childlike voice. "Hey, beautiful! It's almost noon. Don't wear yourself out -come take a break with Kairi and me!"
Rosalynn's lips twitched into a grin. The message wasn't for her; it was clearly directed at Maggie.
The bear was telling Maggie to rest!
Rosalynn's curiosity deepened as she noticed the little cat lounging on the couch.
Its ears flicked toward the screen as if it understood the bear's words.
With a stretch, it shook out its fur, hopped down, and padded gracefully to the desk. There, it paused, stared at the bear on the screen, and meowed insistently, almost as if it was greeting the bear.
Rosalynn realized the cat was quite accustomed to this routine.
Had Karl trained the cat to react like this? The effort seemed absurd, yet entirely in character for him.
Rosalynn smirked, her voice Light with amusement. "Maggie, did you hear that? The bear's telling you to take a break."
From across the room, Maggie turned, water glass in hand, and offered a helpless smile.
