Lyndon's voice carried through the room as he entered, his warm smile brightening the space.
Eyes shining, Tilda looked up at him. "You're back. I wasn't expecting you this soon."
Taking his coat from him, she placed it neatly on the hook.
Warm arms wrapped around her waist as Lyndon pulled her close, his low voice murmuring, "I came back to claim my reward."
A subtle whiff of alcohol clung to him. The embrace brought a flush to her cheeks, and she turned to study his face. "How much have you had tonight? Let me go start a bath for you.
Without loosening his hold, Lyndon's hands stayed at her waist. "Didn't you promise me a reward?"
Affection and playful mischief sparkled in his eyes.
Tilda shot him a look full of teasing challenge. "What's the rush? You should get cleaned up first."
Laughter rumbled in Lyndon's chest, his brow lifting. "Sweetheart, are you sure you're ready for a wild night?"
Her confusion flickered for a moment. Hadn't he been hinting at this ever since he came in?
With a huff, Tilda rolled her eyes and joined the banter. "Fine, you caught me. I'm ready."
A gentle laugh slipped from Lyndon, his amusement soft and warm. "Don't get too eager. Let me eat something first—then you'll get your wish."
Surprise crossed her face. "You haven't eaten yet?"
A shake of his head answered her. "No, I hurried back for your soup. Barely touched my dinner."
The realization dawned-his so-called "reward" was really just her homemade soup.
Clearly, he'd misled her on purpose.
Lightly, Tilda thumped his chest. "You just love teasing me, don't you? I'll remember this!"
Though a little soup was left, she knew she'd have to whip up a couple more dishes to fill him up.
"Let's head downstairs together," Lyndon cooed.
With a soft chuckle, he laced his fingers with hers and led her downstairs.
First, she fixed him a cup of honey water to help with the effects of the alcohol. Then she disappeared into the kitchen to get busy.
Fortunately, the fridge was well-stocked.
It didn't take long before two new dishes were sizzling on the stove.
Within twenty minutes, everything was arranged on the table.
