Hospital.
"The results will be out in about an hour."
The nurse smiled gently, taking the freshly drawn blood. Daniela Flores pressed a cotton swab against the puncture site and found a seat in the waiting area.
She looked a little pale, but her eyes were filled with anticipation. She guessed she was pregnant, and coming to the hospital for a check-up was just to confirm it.
Three years ago, Sebastian Romero was seriously injured in a car accident and fell into a coma. Doctors had declared him a vegetable.
Sofia Flores, his first love, left the country without looking back to pursue her studies.
Sebastian's grandmother, Fernanda, didn't know where she heard it from, but she said that Daniela was Sebastian's lucky star and insisted that Daniela marry him.
As a condition, the Romero family would help arrange for her mother who had gone crazy.
Daniela had no choice.
No one knew that Daniela had secretly been in love with Sebastian for many years.
Surprisingly, after they got married, Sebastian woke up.
Daniela was about to be happy when she heard Sebastian's emotionless words: "For my grandmother's sake, I'll let you be Mrs. Romero for three years."
"After three years, Sofia will come back. I will marry her."
Daniela thought she would accept this arrangement. When the time came, she would obediently divorce him.
Unexpectedly, an accident happened a month and a half ago.
That day was the anniversary of Sebastian's father's death.
Sebastian came back drunk, and Daniela helped him into the house.
The drunk man was heavy, and she had to put all her strength into every step.
Soon, she couldn't hold on, and they both fell near the entrance.
Their lips accidentally touched.
Daniela was terrified.
Sebastian had severe obsessive-compulsive disorder and had never touched anyone in everyday life.
But this kiss seemed to open some kind of switch.
Sebastian leaned in again.
Instinctively, Daniela didn't push him away.
Afterwards, Daniela didn't dare to stay on the bed. While Sebastian was asleep, she pretended everything hadn't happened.
...
The hospital was crowded, and there were few people like Daniela who were alone.
She carefully opened the test report in her hand.
"Early pregnancy. B-ultrasound examination recommended."
Daniela broke into a smile, then immediately covered her mouth to stop herself from laughing out loud.
No matter what her marriage was like, this child was a beautiful gift.
She eagerly took out her phone, wanting to tell Sebastian the news.
Just before making the call, she suddenly stopped.
Sebastian had an almost pathological obsessive-compulsive disorder.
His OCD wasn't just about objects, it was about people too.
Daniela had seen him go almost crazy after touching someone.
He would wash his hands until they bled.
The entire Romero family knew that they wouldn't have a physical relationship.
For the sake of their grandson, even his grandmother had suggested they do IVF, but Sebastian refused.
And yet, he was blacked out after drinking.
Would he believe her if she told him the child was his?
Daniela was momentarily at a loss.
Her head ached, her chest felt stuffy, and she felt nauseous.
A group of doctors in white coats rushed past, almost knocking her phone out of her hand.
She quickly stepped aside.
"Emergency consultation. Please make way."
The little nurse smiled apologetically at her, then hurried after them.
What a big commotion.
Daniela casually looked at the entrance of the emergency room.
The next second, her pupils contracted sharply.
Sebastian was protecting Sofia, getting off the ambulance. He carefully helped her onto a stretcher and rushed towards the VIP room under the escort of everyone.
Daniela's body suddenly went cold, her legs went weak, and she clung tightly to the railing beside her.
Sofia was back!
She was actually back!
In the ward.
The doctor was explaining the situation to Sebastian: "Preliminary diagnosis is mild concussion. We need to wait for the test results."
Sebastian's face was grim: "Hurry up. Go directly through the VIP special care channel."
Sofia lay on the stretcher, giving Sebastian a faint smile: "Sebastian, you're so good to me."
She pouted: "It's my own fault. Who knew that getting hit by a bicycle would cause a concussion?"
"Everyone in the US is supposed to slow down."
Sebastian glanced at her coldly.
Sofia suddenly felt uneasy: "Sebastian, the Skyborne Saga project is on a tight schedule. This fall of mine is going to delay things a lot, isn't it?"
Skyborne Saga was a new project of Sebastian's game company, Star Technology Company, and Sofia had come back as the art director for the project.
"No, I won't stay in the hospital, I have to go back to the company."
She was about to get off the bed.
Sebastian reached out to stop her, holding her shoulders and pushing her back down: "Don't be silly."
Outside the VIP ward, Daniela followed, gritting her teeth, and saw this scene.
It turned out that Sebastian's obsessive-compulsive disorder had exceptions.
He wasn't incapable of being gentle, but he reserved all his gentleness for Sofia.
A sour feeling suddenly filled her nostrils, and Daniela pressed her nose, suppressing the urge to cry.
For some reason, she took out her phone and dialed Sebastian's number.
In the ward, Sebastian's expression paused. He took out his phone, glanced at it, and threw it to his assistant, Benjamin, beside him.
"Just say I'm in a meeting."
Daniela saw his impatient face flash by and her heart ached.
Benjamin stepped back and said softly: "Ma'am, hello. Mr. Romero is in a meeting. Is there anything you need?"
Daniela tried to smile, but couldn't.
"Nothing, I accidentally pressed the wrong number."
Benjamin's brows furrowed even tighter: "Mr. Romero is very busy, please be careful in the future, ma'am."
In the future?
Will there be a future?
Sofia heard Benjamin's address and her eyes flickered.
She casually raised her hand, revealing the pink bandaid on the back of her hand.
Sebastian's gaze was immediately drawn to it, and there was a hint of nostalgia in his voice: "All these years, you still haven't changed this habit."
Sofia laughed unnaturally: "Of course. I love Hello Kitty the most."
The two locked eyes, and their gaze became intertwined.
Daniela couldn't stand to watch anymore, and turned to leave with her phone in hand.
That night between the two of them, she thought she could change something, but it was just her delusion.
The R City in the golden autumn was still very hot, and the air conditioning in the hospital was full blast, blowing a constant stream of cold air.
It made people shiver uncontrollably.
Her chest felt increasingly stuffy.
Daniela's legs went weak again, almost causing her to fall. Luckily, she managed to grab onto a nearby pillar in time.
This scared her, causing her to feel chills down her spine. She leaned against the pillar and kept patting her chest to calm herself.
As she was patting, she suddenly collapsed against the pillar, feeling weak.
Tears welled up slowly.
In this world, the only thing that truly mattered to her was the child in her belly.
VIP ward.
Sofia looked at Sebastian with a hint of infatuation and mustered the courage to kiss him.
Sebastian naturally noticed her action, but his face suddenly changed, and he pushed Sofia away abruptly. He had to suppress the urge to vomit.
Benjamin hurriedly handed him a glass of water.
Sebastian reached out to take it, but found his arm ached, as if he had lost most of his strength.
His legs also felt a bit weak.
Sebastian frowned slightly, drank several gulps of water, and only then felt slightly better.
He looked back and saw Sofia looking at him with a look of grievance.
