“This is the divorce agreement, take a look.”
Sebastian pushed the document in front of Daniela at the dining table.
Early pregnancy reactions had been kicking in, Daniela couldn't eat anything all day, and her face turned even paler after seeing the agreement.
Her mind was in a daze. After a long pause, she finally heard her own trembling voice: “Do we have to get divorced?”
She was obviously not giving up yet, wanting to ask once more.
“Yes.”
“Because Sofia is back?”
Sebastian reached out to loosen his tie, his expression turning cold: “Three years ago, wasn't I clear enough?”
He had been clear, and she had agreed.
But, but…
Daniela bit her lip: “If… I mean, if…”
Sebastian impatiently interrupted: “Daniela, don't be too greedy.”
Daniela looked up abruptly, staring at him in disbelief.
Did he think she was dissatisfied with the divorce terms?
Sebastian’s long fingers tapped lightly on the table: “These three years, you’ve taken care of me, I’d say, diligently. There’s an apartment on the third ring road, not big, but it’s yours.”
“This is the biggest concession I can make. Don’t let me think you’re cheap.”
All of Daniela’s words were stuck in her throat, a mocking smile slowly curving her lips.
Three years of marriage, could she exchange it for an apartment with him? Should she be grateful to him?
He was trying every method to get a quick divorce.
She no longer needed to tell him about the pregnancy. Who knows how he would think of her then.
She didn’t want a man who kept thinking about Sofia either.
Her chest was tight, and she felt like vomiting.
Daniela crouched down, hugging the trash can, making a couple of dry heaves, but nothing came out.
Just at that moment, Sebastian, who had been feeling much better, suddenly felt uncomfortable again.
His stomach churned.
Like Daniela, he wanted to crouch down and throw up.
Sebastian frowned, looking at Daniela in disbelief.
He had been feeling weak all afternoon, and his symptoms worsened after Daniela got out of bed.
Now, Daniela wanted to vomit, and so did he.
Coincidence?
He narrowed his eyes, a hint of scrutiny in his gaze: “You’re sick? When did you get sick? What are your symptoms?”
Daniela couldn’t vomit, feeling even worse, she just wanted to hold the trash can and not let go.
Hearing his question, her fingertips froze unconsciously, she pretended to be relaxed: “Maybe a cold, it’s nothing.”
“Answer me!”
His voice suddenly became harsh, startling Daniela. She subconsciously whispered, “This afternoon, when you…”
“Chest tightness, weakness in my limbs, feeling a bit nauseous. Just a common cold.”
She didn’t mention the hospital, directly classifying it as a cold, not giving anyone the chance to think differently.
The time and symptoms matched.
They both caught a cold at the same time?
Daniela finally gave up, subconsciously avoiding looking at the divorce agreement on the table, she opened the refrigerator and took out the grapefruit she had bought that afternoon.
Her mouth felt terrible, she wanted to eat something sour.
To sign the agreement, she needed to have the strength to hold a pen.
As soon as the orange-red grapefruit was taken out, a sour smell spread in the air.
Daniela glanced at Sebastian, who was standing there staring at her, hesitated for a moment before asking, “Why don’t you eat a little too, to line your stomach?”
Sebastian looked away in disdain.
Daniela awkwardly smiled: “Sorry, I forgot you don’t like sour things.”
But when Daniela cut the grapefruit open, the bright, plump flesh was revealed, a strong sour scent filled the air.
Sebastian suddenly found himself unable to look away.
Just as Daniela was about to eat, she saw Sebastian walking over.
His tall figure was like a wall, slowly approaching, making the space feel cramped.
Daniela subconsciously stepped back: “You don’t like it, then I…”
Before she could finish, she saw Sebastian turn on the faucet, squeezing out hand sanitizer, carefully washing it three times, then reached out to take a piece of grapefruit.
He frowned and stared at it for a while before putting it in his mouth.
Daniela’s mouth opened in surprise.
Sebastian didn’t spit it out, instead, he chewed a few times and swallowed it. Then he looked at her seriously: “Next time, remember to wash the knife three times.”
How could he, but he couldn’t resist the urge to eat this piece of grapefruit.
After eating it, the feeling of nausea and discomfort did indeed ease.
It definitely wasn’t a cold.
His discomfort had appeared after Daniela’s, as if Daniela was uncomfortable, so he was uncomfortable.
Interesting.
He had to investigate properly.
Daniela stupidly “oh”ed.
The two of them finished the whole grapefruit together.
This could be considered the most heartwarming moment in three years.
Daniela washed her hands and looked up at the man in front of her.
Perhaps because they ate grapefruit together, she suddenly felt that he wasn’t that far away.
But their finishing line was already in sight.
She said softly, “I’ll sign the divorce agreement.”
As if three years of work, in exchange for ten million and an apartment, no matter how you looked at it, she was making a profit.
She picked up a pen, ready to sign.
But Sebastian suddenly pulled the divorce agreement away.
“I need to add an apartment. We’ll sign after the lawyer prepares the final documents.”
Daniela nodded dumbly.
Sebastian’s phone rang.
He answered the call, and a sweet voice came through: “Sebastian, when are you coming over? I’m so bored.”
It was Sofia.
Daniela clenched her fist holding the pen, her thumb pressing hard against the pen holder, almost breaking it.
Sebastian hung up the phone quickly, picked up his clothes and walked out.
Daniela chased after him a couple of steps, asking him how to explain it to his grandmother.
Sebastian just replied, “We’ll talk about it when I get back,” and slammed the door shut as he left.
The large house suddenly became empty.
She chuckled self-deprecatingly, took a deep breath and got up to cook noodles.
She had a baby in her belly, naturally, she couldn’t starve herself.
A knock came at the door.
Daniela thought Sebastian had forgotten something, she quickly opened the door, but after seeing who it was, her face darkened: “What are you two doing here?”
Daniela’s father, Diego Flores, had a kind smile on his face: “Your phone wasn’t reachable, your mother and I came to see you.”
There were indeed dozens of missed calls on her phone.
She usually didn’t answer their calls, how come they suddenly had a change of heart to come see her?
Daniela’s face turned colder: “My mom is a lunatic, she’s in Hope Psychiatric Hospital. Have you been too long without seeing her and forgotten?”
Daniela’s stepmother, Martina Munoz immediately changed her expression.
She was dressed in a sophisticated Chanel suit, with no trace of a woman who had spent decades farming in the countryside.
Only her triangular eyes were still sharp, and her voice was shrill: “This child of yours, how do you talk? You have no manners at all.”
A wave of anger suddenly surged up in Daniela’s heart.
If she didn’t have manners, she would have killed her long ago.
Back then, her mother’s illness wasn’t that serious, it was after Martina’s visit that she went completely mad.
She had been looking for evidence all these years, someday she would make all of them pay.
Gradually, she suppressed the hatred in her heart, and said coolly, “You still haven’t told me, why are you here?”
“Come in and talk.”
The two of them entered the house, Daniela poured them two cups of water.
Seeing Daniela’s forbearance and obedience, Martina’s anger turned to pride. She raised her chin and said, “Your sister is back. You immediately divorce Sebastian, give her back the position of Mrs. Romero!”
“Give back?”
Daniela squeezed the water kettle in her hand, she barely held back from throwing it in her face.
“I don’t understand what you mean.”
She only looked at Diego: “Back then, Sebastian became a vegetable, you said the company’s finances were having trouble, only by marrying Sebastian would there be money to treat my mother’s illness.”
“I married into the Flores Family, how did Mrs. Romero’s position become Sofia’s?”
