Bernard was dejectedly sipping his Coke.
He had run away from the Rodriguez Family dinner, even sneaking out two bottles of Lafite without fear of being caught.
Though not the '82 vintage, the taste was still pretty good.
His mother's constant nagging about marriage was annoying, but the wine she picked was excellent.
He had planned to get drunk with Sebastian tonight.
But Sebastian dragged him to Daniela's place, claiming that Daniela was pregnant and took all the wine.
Now, they were sitting in the wine cabinet.
Bernard looked at them longingly, feeling as if the wine bottles were beautiful women beckoning him: "Come on, come taste me."
Agony!
Bernard swallowed another mouthful of Coke.
"Oops!" Emilia suddenly cried out.
Bernard choked on the Coke.
The bubbles burst in his throat, causing him to cough violently, his face turning red, the Coke spilling all over the floor.
Daniela was startled by his appearance and quickly handed him a tissue, kicking Sebastian: "Get him a glass of water."
Sebastian had been looking at Bernard with disgust, but Daniela's rare initiative and the way she kicked him affectionately, made Sebastian… almost unable to control the smile at the corner of his mouth.
He got up, poured Bernard a glass of water, and watched him drink it, feeling much better before patting Bernard on the back and sitting back down.
He even gave him a few more tissues.
Bernard almost choked again.
He had stained the carpet, and Sebastian hadn't even gotten angry?
Bernard looked at the wine cabinet again.
None of the wine had been opened.
He hadn't even drunk, why was he drunk?
Daniela, seeing that he was alright, turned to Emilia and asked why she had shouted suddenly.
Emilia smiled: "Lucas is out of town, we should call him."
With that, she reached for Daniela's phone.
Sebastian's sharp gaze swept over, carrying a hint of coldness.
Daniela also realized and quickly went over to Emilia.
She had also wanted to call. But thinking that Lucas might be busy with classes later, she said she would wait until evening, but Sebastian had upset her and she had forgotten.
It was almost ten o'clock now, and it should be okay to call.
Sure enough, after the phone rang, Lucas answered.
Except, he was still wearing his white coat, a pen in his hand, apparently still busy.
"Oh! Lucas is still busy?"
Lucas took a moment to look at them, smiling gently: "Daniela, Emilia, Happy New Year. It's almost over, I'm not busy."
Daniela and Emilia exchanged glances, both feeling that he was lying.
Judging from the background behind Lucas, he was definitely still at the hospital.
He wasn't even taking a break for New Year's Day, which shows how busy he was.
The two of them didn't expose him, and both said "Happy New Year."
Emilia said: "We're at Daniela's new home. Come to think of it, hasn't Lucas been here yet?"
Lucas looked carefully at the screen: "It looks good, when I'm free, Daniela has to invite me over."
Daniela laughed: "Of course. You have to come over when you come back."
Lucas laughed along.
Bernard couldn't help but poke Sebastian, whispering: "Tsk tsk, look at him. One sentence and he gets invited over. Look at you."
Sebastian glanced at him: "If you can't speak, just shut up."
Bernard "tsked": "What good is it to argue with me? You have the guts, kick Lucas out."
If he really wanted to kick him out, it's likely that Sebastian would be the one leaving.
Sebastian lowered his eyes, his gaze sweeping over the two women chatting on the phone.
Behind them was the wine cabinet.
They must be able to see it clearly on the phone.
Sebastian got up, walked over to the wine cabinet, carefully selected a bottle of red wine, turned to Daniela and asked: "Daniela, where's the corkscrew?"
