Chapter 866:
Daemonikai.
Only he could hunt him like this. As if Zaiper were filth. As if he didn’t even deserve to be captured with honor. Rage burned, but fear prevailed.
Daemonikai would kill him. He’s going to kill me.
And so, Zaiper ran. And ran.
His chest burned. His muscles trembled. His body screamed in protest, but still, he ran. He found another opening, a dense thicket of bushes, and dove into it.
Seconds passed. Then a minute. Then three.
The unease returned.
Zaiper’s lungs froze.
He crawled out and started running again, unable to stop. He didn’t know how long the chase lasted.
It felt endless. By the time he reached the clearing, sweat dripped into his eyes. His limbs felt like stones, and he staggered.
A hand wrapped around his neck.
He was pulled backward, slammed against a tree. Hard.
His vision blurred. There, inches from his face, serene as the stars, lethal as a god, stood Daemonikai.
“Here you are,” the Great King said softly. “My prey.” He tilted his head slightly. “Did you enjoy the hunt? I did. But now I can take home my prize. The best one yet.”
Zaiper gasped, trying to focus. “Werewolves… on Urekai lands? Never… I thought you’d lean…”
“When it comes to protecting our people from you and your bloodsucking allies,” Daemonikai said, circling him like a panther, “I would have opened the gates to the witches of the Eastern Wildlands if it meant keeping my people safe.” He clasped his hands behind his back. “In fact, inviting the werewolves was one of my best decisions.”
“It certainly was,” Azrael growled behind him.

“H-how?” Zaiper’s eyes widened.
“You see, I received the most detailed letter from Sinai…”
Zaiper’s eyes gleamed. “That’s not possible.”
Daemonikai smiled. “As I said, I received a very detailed letter from your accomplice. She asked me to deliver a message to you: ‘Consider this vengeance, for believing it acceptable to stab me in the back after I had protected your kind for so long.’”
