It would've made sense if she was a rogue, but she wasn't. She had a family and didn't seem particularly short of money, so why did she agree to come here with me?
I couldn't figure it out, so after a few minutes of pondering, I decided to ask her about it.
“Bella, I'm curious. Why'd you agree to such a dangerous thing?"
Bella turned around and shot me a resentful look.
I raised my eyebrows and pretended to be confused.
"What? You can't tell me?"
Bella smiled at me coldly.
"You think I wanted to do this? You're the one who brought the people of Roz Town here. Otherwise, who would want to take such a risk?"
Debra's POV:
I was stunned.
What on earth did Bella mean by that?
I looked at her curiously and asked, “Does it have anything to do with you?"
“Of course!" Bella hissed through gritted teeth, glaring at me resentfully.
“The guide who led the second batch of Roz Town residents was my husband, Jackson!"
At this point, she stopped walking and turned around to face me angrily.
"It was your people who accidentally stepped into the forest and got lost. The Thorn Edge Pack invested a lot of manpower into rescuing them, and when all's said and done, our whole family will be investigated and judged!"
Once again, I was stunned.
Now I understood why Bella hated me at first sight.
I was trying to find something to say that'd ease the atmosphere, but Bella seemed hell-bent on venting her anger. She spat with resentment, "This is all Roz Town's fault. My husband and I have been guides for so many years, yet we never had an accident. What're the odds something would go wrong as soon as we helped your town?"
Bella's baseless accusation made me feel helpless.
But I was able to glean something from her angry words.
"Are you saying that your husband, Jackson, is a very experienced guide? Under normal circumstances, he wouldn't have taken the wrong way and stepped into the foggy forest, right?"
"Of course he wouldn't!" Bella snorted indignantly.
I hesitated for a moment and asked cautiously, “Is it possible that somebody bribed Jackson into deliberately taking the wrong way?"
