For a moment, Brenna wasn’t sure how to respond. After a while, she finally said, “You’re right. We really should focus on what makes us happy, instead of trying so hard to win people over. Honestly, I didn’t expect her to like the present I picked.”

Ellie, who had been listening nearby, let out a sigh. “See what I mean? Elsa is doing her best to create a divide between you and Rosanna. Expensive gifts put Rosanna in a tough spot, because she simply can’t keep up. Brenna offered a resigned shrug. “What should I do? If I buy pricey gifts for Elsa, Rosanna might feel like I’m deliberately showing her up—especially since she can’t match that kind of spending.
