Chapter 1385:

Ethan’s tone grew firm. “Mom, just let it go. Young people have their own plans. Let them handle things themselves.”

Fury boiled over as Elsa hurled her cup aside and yelled into her phone, “I’ve poured my whole life into this family! All these years, you never once listened to a thing I said. Now you’ve grown up, I’m getting older, and still, I get no support, no understanding from you. Every word out of my mouth, you find a way to argue. What good are you to me? From this day on, I’ll never ask you for a single thing again!”

The call had ended, but her emotions still roiled.

Sleep eluded her that night. She tossed from side to side, haunted by the realization that neither of her sons felt close to her anymore.

When she finally drifted off, her dreams were filled with her darling granddaughter. She swept the little girl into her arms, peppering her face with kisses and beaming with joy as she looked at her.

No one brought her happiness like that child, not even her two sons.

The days slid by, each much like the last. Elsa started spending more and more time at Rosanna’s place, passing whole days simply to spend time with her granddaughter.

Rosanna kept her frustrations about it to herself out of courtesy.

With Kenny working late hours and rarely home, the house felt thick with unspoken tension with Rosanna and Elsa alone. More than once, Rosanna had turned to Kenny with her complaints, and they had even argued several times over the matter.

Still, Elsa’s visits continued.

One bright morning, she packed a bag, bought a new toy, and set out for Rosanna’s place once again.

The sunshine had drawn plenty of people outside. Elsa, now a regular on the block and remembered for her days as a celebrity, attracted friendly greetings everywhere she went.

“Heading off to see your granddaughter again, Elsa?”

There was a time when Elsa hardly noticed the neighbors. But retirement, and trouble in her own family, had changed her perspective. She found herself just like them: ordinary.

Now, she greeted everyone, stopped to chat, and helped out whenever someone needed her advice.

She replied with a warm laugh, “I just can’t stand going a day without her. Girls are such a blessing. I raised two boys, but neither of them holds a candle to my granddaughter.”

The woman talking to her, a bit older than she, leaned in and lowered her voice as she said, “I saw your ex-husband and his young wife earlier. They looked like they were heading to your son’s place.” Follow current novᴇls on find•novel.net

The news instantly soured Elsa’s mood. “Why would he show up now? He’s always ‘too busy’ to visit. Our granddaughter’s already three months old, and he’s seen her only once. Now, suddenly, he has time?”
