Lemira stated coldly, "I know he wouldn't. The Sinclairs are obviously behind this."

But knowing it and stopping it were two very different things.

As long as Hale remained in the Lyria Remand Center, there would be a target on his back.

Even if he survived today, what about tomorrow?

Rowan stepped up beside Lemira. "Don't worry. As long as he still has a pulse, my medical team will ensure he makes a full recovery. He won't miss his day in court."

Before Lemira could respond, Evelina lunged forward, clutching Rowan's arm, her face stained with dramatic tears. "Rowan, you have to save him! He's the only family I have left!"

Despite secretly blaming her father for ruining her cushy life, seeing him clinging to life still sent her into a panic.

Rowan stared at her hand with undisguised revulsion and yanked his arm out of her grip.

His tone was absolute ice. "I am saving him for the Langston family's sake."

"Thank you, Rowan! I knew you cared about me the most."

Evelina beamed through her tears, playing the part of the tragic, adorable victim flawlessly.

Rowan didn't buy a second of it. "I said I'm doing this for the Langstons. Not for you."

Evelina's smile froze. She stood completely still, staring at him in shock.

It finally hit her-Rowan had zero affection for her.

Just then, the doors to the operating room swung open, and a surgeon stepped out. "Family of the patient?"

Evelina practically shoved her way to the front. "That's me! Is my dad okay?"

"The patient was stabbed in the throat with a sharpened toothbrush. Luckily, the guards found him immediately, and the blade narrowly missed his major arteries. He's stabilized. However, we won't know if there's permanent damage to his vocal cords until he wakes up."

Lemira exhaled a heavy breath. "So he's alive?"

That was the only thing that mattered.

Sebastian had been sweating bullets; if their star witness died, their case was practically dead on arrival.

He turned to Lemira. "We need our own guys stationed outside his room 24/7. The Sinclairs will definitely try again."

Before Lemira could speak, Lucian interjected, "Don't worry, we're putting round-the- clock security on him. No one is getting near the witness."

Sebastian shot a highly skeptical look at the Langston brothers. He didn't trust them as far as he could throw them.

Rowan addressed Lemira directly. "Lemira, I'll have my top specialists examine his throat. I won't let him lose his voice."

Lemira finally looked at Rowan. "Fine. I'll leave this to your team."

Caspian strutted over. "Relax. If we can't even keep one guy breathing, you can chop my head off and kick it around like a soccer ball."

Lemira met his gaze. "Remember you said that."

Caspian frowned. "I heard Sophia Sinclair is sleeping with some major underworld boss The guy is heavily tied to the mob. Do you think he ordered the hit?"

"Yes," Lemira confirmed. "Our intel points straight to him."

"Well, that complicates things," Caspian muttered. "Guys like that don't play by the rules."

Sebastian fired back. "Obviously. But no matter how powerful he thinks he is, taking out a high-profile witness in police custody is a massive legal risk. He'll draw heat from the Feds. Besides, a woman like Sophia isn't worth burning his empire to ground over."

Lemira clenched her fists in sheer frustration. The Sinclairs were like cockroaches.

They had been begging for mercy just days ago, and now they were launching assassination attempts.

Lemira frowned. "Let's handle one crisis at a time. Right now, securing Hale is the top priority."

She stood up to leave, only to freeze.

The elevator doors slid open,

revealing Orion Everhart. He had

clearly rushed over the second he

got the news.

Lemira's gaze instantly dropped to his arm. Beneath his tailored coat, there was no

obvious sign of his injury.

She had no idea how his wound was healing.

Orion stepped into the hallway. "Is the witness alive?"

She nodded. "He survived."

Rowan suddenly stepped right into Orion's path, sizing him up. "You must be Mr. Everhart?"
