Hearing the familiar voice, Lemira turned to see the man walking toward them across the lawn.
The lights accentuated the sharp lines of his handsome face.
Orion's arrival drew everyone's attention. He was, after all, the city's most sought- after bachelor.
Now that the rumors of his engagement to Ms. Sinclair were debunked, families with eligible daughters were starting to get ideas.
Orion walked straight to Lemira's side and looked down at her. "Sorry, I'm late."
Seeing him, Lemira was suddenly at a loss for words.
People around them started whispering. "Oh my god, is Ms. Langston the girlfriend Mr. Everhart was talking about?"
"Yes, yes, I heard Mr. Everhart's girlfriend was a game streamer. I can't believe it's her."
"I thought it was just a rumor, but it's actually true."
Lemira heard the chatter and pressed her lips together, saying nothing.
Orion stood beside her and looked up at Mrs. Waverly. "My girlfriend came to her friend's birthday party with an invitation. Is there some misunderstanding that would cause you to ask her to leave?"
Mrs. Waverly hadn't expected Orion to show up. Wasn't Mrs. Eileen seriously ill and in the hospital?
She forced a smile. "Mr. Everhart, what are you talking about?"
"Mrs. Waverly, whatever this misunderstanding is, allow me to clear it up for you." Orion's tone was icy, clearly ready to defend Lemira.
Mrs. Waverly was surprised that Orion would publicly acknowledge Lemira as his girlfriend. She hadn't realized Lemira had such a hold on him.
Her voice was strained. "It's not a big misunderstanding. Of course, I welcome all invited guests to the party."
"But I distinctly heard you telling her to leave. There must be a reason for that, right?"
Orion wasn't going to let it slide, his eyes dangerously cold.
The nearby Mrs. Draven stepped in. "Mr. Everhart, don't press Mrs. Waverly. It's all because of those shameless Langstons. They made such a scene at the party today, and some people stift have the nerve to stick around. I'm embarrassed for them."
Mrs. Draven was still fuming.
It was all because of that shameless adopted daughter of the Langstons, throwing herself at her son, that this whole mess happened.
Mrs. Draven hated the entire Langston family now, and that included Lemira. They all had the same last name; what kind of decent girl could they possibly raise?
And now this Lemira had managed to latch onto Orion.
It just proved it: the Langston girls had no class, always trying to seduce rich men, dreaming of marrying up.
After hearing Mrs. Grace Draven's words, Mrs. Waverly said to Orion with a sigh, "I had no choice. I couldn't let it ruin the party."
"My girlfriend has severed all ties with the Langston family. Their shameful actions have nothing to do with her."
Orion had already heard about what happened at the party on his way over.
Although he suspected Lemira had something to do with the live stream from the suite, the Langstons had brought it on themselves. What did it have to do with Lemira?
Seeing Orion defend Lemira so fiercely, Mrs. Waverly knew she couldn't say much more.
But Mrs. Grace Draven wasn't ready
to give up. "Mr. Everhart, are you sure you haven't been deceived by her? Just now, the other Langston girl threw herself at my son in a suite, trying to duce him and
marry into wealth. Aren't you
suspicious of a girl from a family like
that?"
Orion shot her a cold look. "Mrs. Draven, since you put it that way, let me ask you a
question. Dorian took his own pants off, didn't he?"
Mrs. Draven's face instantly turned beet red.
四周有人忍不住笑出声。
Lemira glanced up at Orion beside her. Was his tongue coated in venom today?
Humiliated, Mrs. Grace Draven
snapped, "But the Langston girl was
the one who threw herself at my son first! The Langstons have it all planned out Asher marries into the Waverly family, one sister seduces my son, and the other seduces you. If they succeed, the Langston family will jump up a social class
overnight!"
