Lemira's mind began to race, trying to guess why the old matriarch wanted to see her, though she knew it could only be about one thing.
Either she approved, or she didn't.
And she suspected the latter was far more likely.
Orion frowned immediately. "She's just been injured and needs to rest. I'll go talk to my grandmother."
Lemira looked at him. "Wouldn't that be a bad idea?"
She had heard the old woman's health wasn't good. What if she upset her?
Orion gave her a deep look. "Go tomorrow. I'll go see my grandmother first." "Okay, fine."
Lemira watched Orion leave the room and rubbed her temples. The affairs of powerful, wealthy families were always complicated.
What did Mrs. Eileen want to say to her?
After thinking it over, she sent a message to her dorm's group chat: "I'm in the hospital. Can you let the school know for me?"
When Stella and Oanice saw the message, they rushed to the hospital.
Lemira was surprised. "What are you two doing here?"
"You said you were injured and in the hospital. How could we not come see you?"
Oanice had even brought a takeout container from the cafeteria with Lemira's favorite food. "I was worried you'd be alone in the hospital with no one to take care of you, so I brought you dinner."
"Thank you, but I don't really have an appetite right now."
Lemira's throat was still bothering her.
Stella was stunned. "How did a fire start so suddenly?"
"I think someone tampered with the equipment, but I'm not sure yet. It's still under investigation."
Lemira looked at Stella and lowered her voice. "There's something I wanted to ask you."
"What is it?"
"Did you know that Mrs. Eileen is also in this hospital? She wants to see me."
Lemira looked at Stella expectantly. She didn't know much about these powerful families, but Stella did.
Stella thought for a moment before replying, consider you a friend, so I'll be honest with you. The Everhart family has very high hopes for orion, so naturally, they want him to marry someone of equal social standing."
"I figured as much."
"But Grandma Eileen is a nice person. She's not like that. I'll go visit her in a bit and try to gauge her opinion."
Lemira gave a wry smile. No matter how nice she was, the Langston family's status was far too low.
Oanice and Stella stayed for a while longer before heading back to the university.
Not long after they left, Mrs. Amanda arrived.
"Lemira, I heard you were injured!"
Mrs. Amanda rushed into the room and
Lemidiately saw the burn
s leg. She frowned. "Honet
you get t
hurt so badly?"
Lemira smiled faintly. "It's not that bad. Nothing serious."
"But a scar would be terrible for a young woman."
did
Mrs. Amanda looked at the injury on Lemira's calf with concern.
Just then, Mrs. Amelia walked in reluctantly. "I thought something had happened to Orion too. Thank goodness he's alright. A fire auto place to be rushing into. What if something had happened to him?"
Mrs. Amelia's words were a veiled accusation, implying Lemira shouldn't have let Orion save her.
Lemira heard Mrs. Amelia's comment and sneered inwardly. You can't beat experience, indeed.
Mrs. Amelia's words were meant for Mrs. Amanda.
No mother would want her son risking his life to play hero for a damsel in distress.
Mrs. Amelia was trying to turn Mrs. Amanda against her.
But Mrs. Amanda seemed unfazed. "Orion is a grown man, and he's quite capable. It's fine for him to help someone."
Especially since the person he saved was Lemira.
Lemira's eyes widened in surprise. Did Mrs. Amanda really not care? Or was she just putting on an act?
