Evander had been holed up at the Langston Estate these past two days, too
embarrassed to show his face. He'd even invited his friends over that day, and now he was the laughingstock of their whole social circle.
And it was all because of Lemira.
Evander had called Lemira multiple times, but the calls never went through—it was obvious she had blocked his number.
He was fuming, desperate for someone to take his anger out on, when, to his surprise, the troublesome girl came back of her own accord.
Lemira's tone dripped with sarcasm. "All you can ever do is ask why. Are you some kind of walking question bank? You're completely useless and all you know is how to yap like a stray dog-what gives you the right to criticize me?"
"I'm Evander your brother, your elder! Why wouldn't I have the right to criticize you?” Evander snapped back, his anger flaring as if she'd hit a nerve.
"In the end, you should be thanking me. If I hadn't exposed the truth, you'd have ended up marrying the daughter of the very man who killed our parents. Do you really think you could live with that on your conscience?"
Evander faltered at this and looked momentarily guilty, but quickly retorted, “Evelina's father is responsible for Mom and Dad's deaths, not Evelina herself. You shouldn't lump her in with what he did."
“Sure, logically Evelina isn't at fault. But she knew her father was still alive—and she knew there was more to the car accident than what we've been told. She still chose to hide the truth to protect him!"
Evander remained silent.
Lemira pressed on. "Not only that she secretly worked with her father to steal a massive sum of money Asher invested, nearly pushing the Langston Group into bankruptcy!"
“Lemira, stop making things up and trying to scare people. Asher's company is huge. There's no way a single sum could send it into a crisis or risk bankruptcy. You can't fool me."
Evander didn't believe a word she said. As far as he was concerned, the Langston Group was far too rich to be brought down so easily.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Pointing a finger right at Lemira, he snapped, "I heard you already took Evelina's father into custody. Bring him here to the house right now. We need to get to the bottom of what happened
“Oh, and just who are you? You think I'll bring him here just because you say so?"
With that, kemira threw the cup she
was holding onto Evander's leg. "And let's get something straight-this
villa is under my name. Mind
tone,
your
or I'll have you thrown out right
How."
“What's all this shouting about? Haven't you had enough?”
Asher and Lucian had just returned, both with tired faces and a weary look about them.
Seeing Asher, Evander immediately
shouted, "Asher, look at how
Lemira's acting told her to bring
Evelina's father here and she flat-out
refused. I'm starting to think she never caught him at all and is just lying to us."
Asher turned to Lemira. "Did you actually catch Evelina's father or not?" Lemira lounged on the sofa and crossed her legs. "Believe what you like." "Then what have you found so far? How is this related to the Sinclair family?"
Asher still couldn't make sense of what really happened with the car accident all those years ago.
Lemira shot him a cold look. "Didn't you say you already got the truth out of Evelina?"
So it really had all been a lie!
