Lemira had the butler place her parents' memorial photographs in the most
prominent spot.
"Lemmy, what are you doing?"
She turned to face the Langston family. "Can't you see? I'm honoring Mom and Dad —telling them that, after so many years in the dark, we finally know the truth about that car accident."
Lucian looked visibly uneasy, a hint of guilt in his expression.
Asher lowered his gaze, unable to meet the eyes in the black-and-white portraits, a trace of shame crossing his face.
Evander glanced at the somber photos and immediately lost all of his former bravado.
An uneasy silence fell across the room.
Lighting three sticks of incense, Lemira gazed at the images of her young parents. Her voice grew gentler. "Mom, Dad, are you watching from above? We're finally not being toyed with anymore—and don't worry, I swear your deaths will be avenged." After she finished speaking, she turned back to the Langston family.
In a slow, deliberate tone, she said, "Let's settle Evelina's matter now-right here in front of Mom and Dad. Evander, you start."
Evander, so righteous only moments ago, grew noticeably timid.
After all, with their parents looking on even if only in spirit-he didn't dare speak carelessly.
Lemira's stare was cold and unyielding. "What's the matter? Weren't you full of ideas a minute ago?"
Evander stared at the floor, unable to answer.
Seeing his silence, Evelina hurriedly clung to Evander's hand, sobbing, "Evander, I don't want to go to jail!"
The evidence against Evelina was overwhelming, and unless the Langston family chose not to pursue it, denial was pointless.
Now, Lemira had even brought out the deceased's photographs as leverage against the family.
It was infuriating.
Evander was torn by Evelina's pleas. "Given what you've done, how am I supposed to help you? You haven't shared anything useful.”
Evelina bit her lip. “But I've already told you everything I know, I promise! There's nothing else I truly regret it. My father forced me!"
This was the one thing she wasn't lying about.
Lemira's voice grew cold. "So if you're not useful, you should reflect on your crimes in prison."
Evelina bowed her head and wept, no longer meeting Lemira's eyes.
Evander finally snapped, "Lemira, what do you really want? You're tearing this family apart!"
"Me? I'm causing chaos?"
Lemira wheeled Evander, still in his wheelchair, directly in front of their parents' memorials. He tried to look away but she firmly held hins facing the photographs.
Her voice turned icy. "Evander, say that again—right in front of Mom and Dad!"
Although his anger burned, Evander found himself speechless.
Realizing how dire things had become, Evelina desperately turned to Asher. "Asher, it's not like I never gave any clues! Lemira must have transferred that money-she only came back and did all this to shift everyone's attention!"
Lemira's eyes narrowed. "I took the money?"
"Yes! My father is in your custody
now-of course you'd have the money by now ten't it obvious
You've always hoped Asher's project
would fail, so Maple Group Would have less competition."
Everything Evelina said seemed to hit exactly where it stung for Asher.
Asher studied Lemira closely. "That money is vital for the company. Are you sure you didn't find it?"
Lemira almost laughed at the accusation-they really thought she had taken the money?
From the look of suspicion on Asher's face, she knew he doubted her.
After all, their relationship had never been close—and besides, Maple Group and the Langston Group were direct rivals.
With a faint, sarcastic smile, Lemira replied, “The money isn't with me. Believe it, or not-it's up to you."
"How could I take your word for it? Unless you bring Evelina's father here so I can ask him myself."
