Hearing Evelina's words, Evander seized on them as if he'd found some leverage, mocking Lemira: "So this is your so-called evidence? What does it actually prove?"

Lemira gave a cold, sarcastic smile. "See? Weren't you all just asking why I didn't tell you what I'd found sooner? I started suspecting something from that moment on, and it took me all this time to confirm that Evelina's father is actually still alive. If I'd told you right away, would any of you have believed me? Would you have tried to dig out the truth?"

Lemira knew the Langstons inside and out. For the sake of the family's future, they always preferred to turn a blind eye and let things go.

Evander was silent for a long time, unable to find a retort.

Watching the last bit of incense burn down, Lemira said, "In front of Mom and Dad, I want an answer from you all. Evelina embezzled company funds and conspired with her father to defraud the Langston family. Are you going to call the police or not?"

Lucian was the first to speak up. "I think we should call the police."

Asher, however, didn't respond.

Evelina hastily pleaded, "Asher, I was forced-I didn't have a choice! If word gets out, it'll ruin the Langston family's reputation. Besides, my father is in Lemira's hands now—she must have taken the money. The most important thing right now is to get the money back, isn't it?"

Calculating quickly, Asher looked at Lemira and said, "If you tell me where the money is, I'll do whatever you want."

Right now, the Langstons were desperate for cash.

Lemira shot Evelina a mocking glance and said, "So you'd be willing to report her and send her to prison yourself?"

Asher answered steadily, "If Evelina did this, she has to accept the consequences."

By now, his hatred for Evelina ran deep. If it weren't for her, the Langston siblings would never have turned against each other.

Desperation overwhelmed Evelina. "Asher, if you get the money back, I'll be fine, right? Why do you still want to send me to jail?"

Asher's tone was

harsh. "If you

hadn't betrayed the Langston family,

would I be in this situation? This is

all on you! Your father killed my

parents, and I still let you live I

comfortably here for all these years

That's more kindness than you deserved."

Right now, he almost wanted to kill Evelina with his own hands.

Evelina knew she was finished.

She could only turn to Evander and beg, "Evander, please, help me."

But when Evander looked up and saw the black-and-white photograph next to

Lemira, he fell silent, not daring to speak up for her.

Finally, utterly hopeless, Evelina's

face changed. "Of course this is happening because I'm not your real sister. If temira

d done something

like this, you would never treat her this way-all because she's related by blood."

Furious, Asher slapped Evelina hard across the face. "I'm glad you understand, because you're

right-you're not our real sister. Even after the conflict with the family, Leptira never gave up on finding out the truth about our parents deaths. But you? You schemed with your own father, the murderer, against us."

Evelina was berated mercilessly. "But if you all hadn't treated me so badly, I never would have done this!"

How she wished she'd been born a Langston.

But with Lemira around, she'd always be an outsider. That's why she tried to secure some money for herself. In her mind, she hadn't done anything wrong—it was the Langston family who had wronged her.

Seeing Evelina's total lack of remorse, Lucian said, "Let's just call the police. Let them take her away."

"You can't send me to the police—I'm pregnant!" Evelina cried, clutching her stomach, then turned to Evander. "Evander, I'm carrying your child."
