"What happened to Mrs. Amelia has nothing to do with me, so please don't make reckless accusations here."
Lemira didn't want to say any more and turned to leave the Langston Estate.
Once she was gone, Asher looked back at Evander. “You need to stay with Evelina at all times. She is not to leave the Langston family residence for even a moment. If she does, I'll have you thrown out together with her."
Evander felt his pride stung. “Asher, what are you saying? With everything going on, how could I possibly let Evelina wander around? Don't worry. I may not be much help in investigating our parents' deaths, but I won't drag everyone down either."
"You'd better not."
Asher, still seething, prepared to leave as well. Lucian followed him out, lowering his voice. "Should we put someone on Lemira's tail? I have a strong feeling Mrs. Amelia's disappearance is connected to them."
But now that Lemira had grown distant from them, she wouldn't share anything about her investigation.
"Of course we should have someone follow her. We're completely in the dark right now-and we still don't know where Evelina's father is hiding."
“I asked Evelina before. She said her father had been hiding at a car dealership. We can start looking from there."
"We'll get there, but right now the most important thing is recovering that money."
Lucian looked astonished. "Asher, is anything really more important than finding out the truth about our parents' deaths?"
Asher's tone was edged with frustration, "If we can't recover the money soon, we'll have a major cash flow problem. The Langston Group could face bankruptcy!"
He couldn't just stand by and watch the company he'd built fall apart.
Asher's voice softened. "It isn't that I don't want to get to the bottom of our parents' deaths. With Lemira and the Everhart family involved, she'll be able to track down Evelina's father-our involvement wouldn't change much."
"But still, even if it doesn't help much, we can't do nothing, can we?"
Lucian couldn't accept just sitting on the sidelines.
"Here's what we'll do, Lucian: you keep a close eye on Lemira, and I'll focus on finding out where the money went—hopefully, that'll also help us track down Evelina's father. Sound good?"
"Alright. If you hear anything, let me know right away."
Lucian knew that if the Langston Group went under, they'd have no way to stand up to the Sinclair family in the future.
Inside the mansion.
Evelina looked at Evander with a pitiful expression. "Evander, I'm not feeling well. Can I go rest in my room for a bit?”
"Alright, but I'm warning you: don't try anything. The house staff all have their eyes on you."
"Of course I won't."
Evelina headed straight to her
bedroom. Once inside, she closed
the door and took out her closet
phone to
call her father-but his phone was
off.
Damn it. Could Lemira really have caught Dad?
She couldn't just sit here and wait for disaster.
Suddenly, Evelina remembered what Asher had said—Mrs. Amelia was missing?
After thinking a moment, she dialed Susanna Susanna answered, he voice impatient: "Why are you calling me? Don't tell me you finally got
kicked out of the Langston famil and need to borrow money"
Susanna already knew what had happened at Evelina's wedding. She hadn't heard from Evelina these last
few gays, and Evelina bädn't been to class, so she figured Evelina Mad been thrown out by the Langstons.
After all, it's not like just anyone gets into Business School.
Evelina's face turned cold. "Has your mother gone missing?"
"You're really here to kick me when I'm down? Listen, my mother will be found soon!"
"I know who kidnapped your mother."
Evelina's eyes were icy cold. This time, she was going to make sure Lemira was completely destroyed.
