When Lemira heard these words, she could only feel an overwhelming sense of irony.

In her previous life, right up to the day she died, she had longed to hear Asher admit regret and offer an apology. Now, having finally gotten her wish and hearing him say those words, she found herself far less joyful than she'd imagined she would be.

Lemira's face remained expressionless, her eyes brimming with sarcasm.

Asher caught the look in her eyes and was left speechless, the words dying on his lips.

At that moment, Evander came downstairs, leading Evelina with him.

Evelina looked utterly miserable-dressed in mourning clothes felt almost unbearable, as if it was costing her half her life.

When Lemira saw how uncomfortable Evelina was, her mood immediately improved.

She walked over and stood beside them. "I suggest you adjust your attitude. Otherwise, I can have you both thrown out at any time."

Evander was clearly frustrated. "Lemira, don't get ahead of yourself! Since when do you get to dictate what happens in the Langston family? Asher, aren't you going to say anything? Are you just going to stand there and let Lemira boss us around?"

Asher replied coolly, "This really is Lemira's house now. If you want to stay here, you have to follow her rules. If not, you're free to leave.”

"Asher, our parents left this house to us! How could you just hand it over to Lemira?” Evander protested.

Now it was Asher's turn to get angry. "You have some nerve bringing that up. How much money did you burn through on those reckless investments? How many messes have I had to clean up for you over the years?"

Evander was immediately silenced.

Lucian looked at Evander and said, "Sure, Mom and Dad divided the inheritance, but if Asher hadn't kept this family afloat, your shares wouldn't be worth the paper they're printed on. And if Evelina's father hadn't killed our parents, your leg wouldn't be like this."

Evander's gaze darkened as he recalled the reason for his own disability— something that had been a lifelong source of bitterness.

Asher gave Evelina a cold look as well. "If it weren't for her, our parents wouldn't have died, we wouldn't have nearly gone bankrupt, and you would still be walking!"

Standing nervously to the side, Evelina dropped her gaze and stayed silent, too ashamed to say a word.

She realized there was nothing left she could do but kneel and bow her head in humiliation.

Lemira watched and finally felt like

she'd gotten some long-awaited

justice From now on, the butler i

going to keep an eye on you every day. f you defy the rules, be

prepared for the consequences."

Evelina bit her lip. “And what do you plan on doing regarding my father?"

She had to know what was going to happen! The investigation had pointed toward the Sinclair family, but her father had never told her

anything leaving her in this helpless

position.

If the Sinclairs truly were involved, Lemira might not be able to take her revenge.

After all, the Langston family was no match for the Sinclairs.

Lemira looked at Evelina with a faint, knowing smile. “What's the matter, getting worried now?"

"I want to know what really happened too. I want to ask my father why he did this and why you lost your parents."

"You know perfectly well why he did what he did-your father was always a gambler. Of course he did it for money. Why ense would he make you steal cher's money in secret?"

Evelina ducked her head in shame and dared not reply.

Lemira's voice turned icy. "Don't worry. Your turn is coming soon."

Frantic, Evelina looked up. "I had nothing to do with what happened back then! I only did what I did because my father forced me—I know I was wrong."

With her father caught, all Evelina could think about now was how to survive.
