Now that she knew exactly which man at the dealership was Evelina's father, the most important thing was to inform Orion so he could make the arrest.
She had waited so long-finally, the day had arrived.
Thankfully, Evelina's father had been bold (or foolish) enough to believe that hiding in plain sight was safest, so he never left. That had given her the time she needed to track him down.
“Lemmy, where are you going?” Lucian hurried after her, obviously anxious. “I know you still hold a grudge against Asher, but at least he understands he was wrong. It hasn't been easy for us, either. Every day has felt like an eternity. If you need help, just say the word."
Lucian's sincerity was unmistakable.
He'd been plagued by guilt lately; he hadn't really slept in days.
"I don't need anything for now. I've told you-when I do need your help, I won't be shy about asking."
"So where are you headed now? Let me drive you."
"That's not necessary."
Lemira gave Lucian a look. “And you can stop sending people to follow me around. What's the point of these little games?"
Lucian looked embarrassed. “That was actually Asher's idea. He's just worried you might get yourself into something you can't handle. There's nothing more to it."
They were just concerned for Lemira's safety. After all, the Sinclairs weren't exactly easy to deal with.
"And where was your concern when things were truly the worst?" Lemira shot back, her expression icy. "I got through all of it by myself. Now, when everything's almost over, you all finally want to pitch in. Isn't that just a little bit ridiculous?"
She knew exactly why they were suddenly so interested: they wanted to find out where Evelina's father was. Lemira suspected their motives went beyond simply avenging their parents.
“Lemmy, that isn't what we mean. We're family. No matter what disagreements we have, when it
comes to our parents' deaths, wet
should all be on the same side You'v
ve leaned on the Everhart heir so much-how will you ever repay him later?"
Lemira's gaze dropped. “That's my business. It doesn't concern you."
"Lemmy, I know you have a close relationship with him, but you do understand, right? The Everhart family is powerful and old-money. They're not going to let just any girl marry in. And besides, Mrs. Amanda and Mrs. Amelia are the closest of are the closest of friends. If you insist on revenge and end up sending Mrs. Amelia to
prison, do you really think Mrs.
Amanda will just forgive and forget?"
Lucian's voice was pleading. "We are your real family, Lemmy. You should trust us,
not Orion. What if, in the end, he sides with the Sinclairs?"
"He won't," Lemira replied flatly.
“But none of this has really started yet. If the Sinclairs find out what Orion's been
doing for you, do you think he'll stick his neck out and keep helping?"
Lucian couldn't help but worry. The
ties between the Everhart and
Sinclair families ran deep; he
doubted Orion could be completely
trusted in a situation like this.
"I told you, this is my business. You can stop worrying about it."
With that, Lemira left the Langston Estate.
She had no doubt-Orion was not that kind of person.
Lucian stood there watching her go, his eyes filled with worry and resignation. When would Lemira ever understand that everything he did was for her own good?
How could someone from the Everhart family ever truly be trusted?
After leaving, Lemira wasted no time—she immediately called Orion. "I've identified Evelina's father. I'm sending his picture to your phone right now."
Lemira's excitement was palpable—at last, they could finally catch Evelina's father. She only hoped that this time-nothing would go wrong.
