"Silly girl, why are you worrying so much? My mother was constantly deceived by the Sinclairs. Seeing their true colors was just too much for her to process all at once, which is why she collapsed. It has nothing to do with you."
Despite his reassurance, a heavy knot remained in Lemira's chest.
"Don't stress over this. I'm going to have Hale escorted to the police station as planned. Debby will pick you up shortly, and you two can head over first."
"Okay, I understand. Stay at the hospital and take care of Mrs. Amanda. I can handle things on my end."
After ending the call, Lemira didn't waste any time and headed out.
On the other end of the line, Orion's heart weighed heavy. The day of reckoning had finally arrived.
Just then, Amelia walked up to Orion, her eyes rimmed with red. "I really don't know why your mother got so worked up and fainted. You should have the doctors run a full check-up. I'm worried there might be some underlying cause."
Orion's expression was glacial. "This is Everhart family business. Leave immediately."
Amelia looked a bit embarrassed. "Your mother and I just had a little spat. With our decades of friendship, we'll patch things up in no time. Disagreements aside, I still care deeply about her health."
Orion was thoroughly disgusted by her sheer audacity.
He looked at her with pure revulsion. "If you cared about her health, you wouldn't have used her, nor would you have shown up last night to corner her. If you hadn't, she never would have been pushed to the edge like this."
Matthew stormed over, glaring furiously at Amelia. "You toxic woman! You've been using my mom for as long as I can remember! Are you even fit to call yourself her best friend? You're not worthy! Get the hell out!"
Truthfully, Matthew had been suppressing his hatred for the Sinclair family for years. Unfortunately, his mother had always adored them. As the men of the family, he and his brother couldn't easily interfere in women's social circles.
But who could have guessed Amelia was this vile, manipulating his mother time and time again!
Matthew's blunt words shattered what little pride Amelia had left.
Amelia snapped, "Given how close I am to your mother, I won't lower myself to bicker with children."
Orion stared her down. "You should
be worrying about yourself right now. The police are going to be knocking on your door soon to. reopen the investigation into the fatal car crash. Instead of wasting. time trying to sow discord here, you should figure out how to afford a top-tier lawyer so you can shave a few days off your prison sentence."
Amelia was absolutely stunned.
Her face drained of color as her
voice hit a shrill pitch. "Aren't youet
OL
Everharts terrified of karma? family is neck-deep in what happened back then!"
Matthew was outraged. "What the hell are you talking about? Your family committed
murder! What does that have to do with my brother?"
"Oh, so you don't know? Your precious brother was in the very same car that killed Lemira's parents! Tell me, is he innocent?"
Matthew's face fell. His older brother was in that car?
His mind began connecting the chaotic events of the past few days, and he finally understood why his mother had been pushed to the point of collapse.
But Matthew quickly recovered.
"Even if my brother was in the back seat, so what? He wasn't the one driving Your Sinclair family driver was behind the wheel!
"But if your mother hadn't told him to hurry up, do you think he would have run that
red light? Orion is just as guilty!"
Amelia had completely dropped her facade.
She was determined to drag the Everhart family down with her.
Matthew was utterly shell-shocked. Was there truly a hidden truth behind the crash?
