Outside, Lemira Langston saw Evelina Sterling climbing onto the window ledge, muttering something about dying.
Evander was frantic. "Lucian, what if she actually falls?"
Lemira glanced over. "Relax. When it comes to acting, nobody beats her."
"How do you know she's faking it? What if she's serious?"
Mockery filled Lemira's eyes. "Isn't this exactly how she played you all for fools before? If it weren't for me, you'd still be wagging your tails like oblivious puppies." The Langston family collectively lowered their heads in shame.
It was the harsh truth.
Evander didn't dare say another word.
Lemira continued, "Now we just have to bet that Hale actually cares about his only daughter. If this fails, we'll need a backup plan. It would mean the Black Family played us again."
Asher Langston's face darkened at her words. "Those damn Blacks. If he dares to trick us again, I won't hold back."
Lemira looked at him. "And what exactly can you do?"
Asher stared at Evelina sitting on the ledge. "Then we'll just have to make the Black Family pay the price."
"Asher!" Evander panicked.
Lucian grabbed Evander's arm. "It hasn't come to that yet. She'll get it done. We've all seen how well she plays the victim."
A short while later, Evelina climbed back down.
Standing by the window, Sebastian Bennett waved at Lemira.
She let out a breath. "Looks like we have a result."
Judging by Sebastian's demeanor, it was likely good news.
As the Langstons headed back inside, Orion Everhart stood quietly at the entrance, watching them.
More accurately, he was watching Lemira.
Lucian hesitated as if he wanted to speak, but ultimately said nothing and kept walking.
Lemira was the last to approach. When she looked up, she met Orion's gaze.
She paused as his voice reached her. "You'd better keep your distance

where you draw the line.

"What is that supposed to mean?" she asked, looking at him.
"We have a bit of history. I'm worried he might pull some childish stunt to spite me, and use you to do it."
Orion had thought enough time had
passed that Sebastian wouldn't
stoop so low, but seeing the lawyer's smug look just now had instantly, put him on high alert
Lemira smiled faintly. "Did you really steal his girlfriend back then?"
"Do I look like that kind of guy? The girl he liked just happened to like me instead. It's not like I could control that."
Orion looked exasperated. "But he blamed me for it. The guy holds a grudge. Just be careful."
"Don't worry. I hired him for his legal expertise. As for your concerns, they really aren't an issue."
With a slight curve to her lips, Lemira walked past him.
Orion scoffed softly. What did her last sentence mean?
His concerns weren't an issue? Did she know what he was actually worried about?
Inside, Lemira found the others.
Hale had already been taken back. Evelina was sitting in a chair, leaning into Evander's embrace and crying.
Sebastian strolled over. "We have the location. We're going to get it right now."
"Where is it?"
"Better not say it out loud. The fewer people who know, the fewer complications. We'll just go together."
Sebastian shot a deliberate, highly provocative look at Orion.
Orion remained silent.
"Absolutely not," Asher protested immediately. What was wrong with this lawyer? He had no respect for boundaries.
Sebastian clearly didn't give a damn about the Langston family.
Enraged by the blatant dismissal, Asher snapped Mr. Bennett,
