"What did that guy do to you? Did he make you upset?"
Julius rolled up his sleeves, looking ready to throw hands, fury written all over his face. The fact that he was still in his period costume only made the display unintentionally hilarious.
“Julius, relax. I'm just asking hypothetically." Calliope hastened to reassure him. "He hasn't done anything. If we ever got divorced, it would be because I wanted out, not because he mistreated me."
"You all know me—I've never been one for long-term things. I get bored pretty quickly with anything after a while. I crave new experiences!"
“It's only natural for things to lose their thrill after you've been married for a bit.”
Julius shot her a dubious glance. "After a while? You two haven't exactly reached the 'old married couple' stage yet."
“I'm just saying, what if one day I get tired of him and want a divorce? Would you guys mind having a divorcée for a sister?" Calliope asked, a wry smile tugging at her lips as she looked Julius straight in the eye.
"No way!"
Julius scowled. “Divorced or not, you'll always be our sister. Why would we ever judge you?"
"Don't go overthinking things, you silly girl."
"To us, you're irreplaceable-no one's abandoning you."
"We might worry about people hurting you, sure, but we'd never shun you. Even if you gave up on us, we'd never give up on you!" Julius finished, exasperated.
Calliope relaxed into a smile. "Good. That's all I needed to hear."
Julius grew thoughtful. "By the way... you're sure your husband's health is all right?"
He remembered Silas dropping a cryptic hint about his days being numbered. It still lingered, nagging at him.
"Pretty sure," Calliope replied warily, giving Julius a sidelong glance. "Why do you keep asking? Did you notice something I didn't?"
She unconsciously glanced down at
her own stomach. Was Julius hinting that Silas might have health issues just because she wasn't pregnant yet? That seemed possible. Now, bringing up.divorce probably made him even more suspicious...
Calliope let the topic drop, lapsing into silence.
Shifting her focus, she caught sight of a tall tree in the distance. She stared, startled.
"Julius, is that a person way up in that tree?" she asked, incredulous. She could've sworn someone was standing high among the branches.
"... Yeah, that's a person, all right," Julius said, eyebrow twitching as he stared upward. "Climbing all the way up there these paparazzi will do anything for a shot
Calliope froze. Sitting next to Julius, was she about to become tomorrow's headline? Maybe she should change seats...
While she was mulling it over, she looked up and caught sight of Linnea, the lead actress, not far away.
Linnea was staring right at her, and not with any hint of friendliness.
Calliope raised an eyebrow.
Meanwhile, Linnea glared at her provocatively, coldness flashing in her eyes. "Look at Calliope, acting like she's somebody just because she
s the screenwriter fuirting with two handsome actors at once. Does she seriously think she's so important just because she wrote the script?" Linnea sneered, popping a piece of fruit into her mouth and muttering to her assistant, Sylvia.
“Um..... I thought Julius and Ulysses went over to her on their own?" Sylvia said, looking puzzled.
