Maxwell agreed. Only by being in charge could he truly thrive, and he had the ability
to do it. "Alright, Dad. I promise. But from now on, you can't interfere in the company's affairs."
"As for your other son, I'll send him abroad to study. When he returns, I'll give him some seed money. If he has what it takes, he can build his own career."
It was best not to burn all his bridges. He wanted a more peaceful life for himself in the future.
His own mercy might provide him with an escape route if he ever found himself cornered.
Natalie had given him a new lease on life, and he was determined to live it well from now on.
Yves agreed, and so, everything was settled.
Natalie and Marshall left the company building.
Marshall stayed behind to handle company matters.
Downstairs, Natalie looked at the snow-filled sky and reminded Marshall, "Marshall, Joanna has really changed. You need to be careful."
Marshall gave her a brilliant smile, his voice bright. "I'll be careful, Natalie. Don't worry about me. Just take care of yourself. Didn't you say you were going to take me abroad for a business deal after the New Year?"
"I'm still waiting for that. Together, we'll make our companies bigger and stronger, until we're an unstoppable force, leaving Joanna with no room to move."
Natalie smiled and nodded. “Yes, we'll go right after the holidays."
Marshall was thrilled. The projects Natalie introduced were always profitable. "Great! Let me take you home. There's a party tonight, but it doesn't start until this afternoon."
Natalie shook her head, declining his offer. “No need. Go handle your business. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, so let's enjoy the holiday. After the New Year, there's going to be quite a show."
Marshall understood. He smiled, his
tone calm. get it, Natalie. Joanna's own greed and dirty laundry have already dug her a grave; she just hasn't fallen in yet. Her empire could crumble at any moment. Even if she can dream about her past life, it's too late for her now."
Natalie gave a slight nod. "Exactly. No matter what she does, it's already too late."
Natalie smiled, a cold glint in her eyes, and had Luna push her back to the car.
The man by her side had to pay for what he did to her child.
Marshall watched her go, a gentle smile playing on his lips. "Natalie, you have to get better soon."
Hearing his voice, Natalie turned back and smiled. "Don't worry, I'll recover as soon as I can. Marshall, happy New Year in advance!"
Marshall replied, "Happy New Year, Natalie! I'll come see you the day after New Year's Day."
Luna then helped Natalie into the car, got into the driver's seat, and drove away.
Marshall watched them leave, waiting until he was sure no one was following Natalie's car before getting into his own and driving off.
Joanna and Maxwell Griffith hadn't left. They watched Natalie and Marshall depart, and Joanna slumped back in her seat, deflated.
She closed her eyes. None of this was supposed to happen. She thought about how she had clawed her way through the last decade.
Only she knew the struggle. To
make herself exceptional, to prevent all her hard work from going to waste to finally secure necess and enjoy the rewards, she had pushed herself to the absolute limit.
She was never one to admit defeat, but when it came to Natalie, she had lost time and time again.
Yves's company was supposed to be hers, but something had gone wrong.
