Marshall started the engine and pulled out of the parking lot before asking, "What show are we going to see?"
Natalie smiled. "Nathan's downfall. If I'm not mistaken, today is the day he goes completely bankrupt."
"Mrs. Wilson left for a vacation yesterday, but she set everything up before she went. I just got a message from her telling me to go enjoy the show."
Marshall narrowed his eyes. Nathan's fate was already sealed, so it wasn't much of a spectacle.
But since Natalie wanted to see it, he was more than happy to take her.
Nathan had been holed up in his office for twenty-four hours.
He had been personally reviewing every single contract and proposal.
But today, the phone hadn't rung once, leaving him plagued by unease. He couldn't get through to any of his major partners.
Nathan was pacing the floor frantically. The mounting anxiety made it impossible for him to sit still, and his chest throbbed with a dull ache.
He stared out at the gloomy sky, which only made his mood sink lower.
Unable to wait any longer, he called his assistant.
"Hugh! What the hell is going on? Why aren't any of our partners answering their phones?"
Hugh's voice shook. "Mr. Scott, I was just about to call you. All of our corporate partners have pulled their funding. The companies we acquired from the Wilson family are under investigation for illegal activities. They've all been seized."
"What?" Nathan was in pure disbelief. The dread he had been feeling all day finally crystallized into a terrifying reality.
Natalie hadn't lied to him. This was Mrs. Wilson's trap.
"No, that's impossible! What the hell are you doing? Go stop the authorities right now! Don't let them investigate my company!"
Nathan was losing his mind. It had happened too fast. It had only been a day, leaving him no time to prepare.
Mr. Wilson's companies only had a few shady projects. Nathan had already scrubbed the books. There was no way anything should have gone wrong.
Hugh sounded desperate. "I've tried everything, Mr. Scott. I can't stop them. And that's not all. The banks that gave us loans have been calling, demanding immediate repayment."
"And one more thing, sir. Someone reported you for tax evasion. The authorities are
on their way to your office right now."
The phone slipped from Nathan's hand, clattering onto the floor.
At that exact moment, Sophia walked into the office.
Desperate to win him back, she had been showing up at his office every day.
Seeing his pale face, she hurried over, asking with deep concern, "Nathan, what's wrong? What happened? Why do you look so awful?"
When Nathan saw Sophia, a murderous rage ignited in his eyes. If it weren't for this woman, he would never have ended up like this.
Filled with hatred, he glared at her with icy malice and suddenly lunged forward, his hands wrapping tightly around her throat.
"Ah!" Sophia gagged, her eyes rolling back.
Staring at the murderous intent on his face, she was terrified. "Na... Nathan... let go..."
"Let go?" Nathan wanted nothing more than to strangle her to death. How could he possibly let her go?
His cold gaze was dead and empty, sending a violent shiver of fear through Sophia's body.
Like an enraged beast, he snarled,
"You bitch! It's all because of you!
You're the

everything! Wendy loved me so

That's why I'm ruined!"
"You're the cause of all this! I'm going to kill you!"
His eyes were entirely bloodshot, resembling a demon crawling out of hell.
