Sophia's face was a twisted mask of agony and pure terror.
Meanwhile, Nathan the biggest coward of them all-was trembling violently from head to toe. His chest heaved as he gasped for air, incredibly grateful he had narrowly escaped death.
Wendy looked at Sophia and let out a chilling, merciless laugh. "You're wrong. As much as I want him dead, I'd much rather watch him burn in hell while still breathing. The poison you two used on me is going to backfire entirely onto him."
"His body is already ravaged by the toxins. Soon enough, he'll be a complete vegetable, utterly incapable of even taking his own life. This is what you call getting a taste of your own medicine. I might not be able to drive him clinically insane, but I can certainly make him wish he were dead."
Wendy's tone was so dangerously casual it left Nathan reeling in shock.
"What?!" Staring at the sinister smile on Wendy's face, reality finally crashed down on him. She hadn't come here to remarry him. She was here to shove him straight into hell, making sure he never stood back up again.
His entire life was effectively over.
"Wendy, how the hell did you know I was poisoning your wellness broth?"
He couldn't figure out where things had gone wrong.
Why had he lost so catastrophically?
Wendy sneered, masking her face in mock sorrow. "When you became so intensely dedicated to bringing me that soup every single day, I already knew you were cheating on me. I had the broth tested, and that's when I found out you were lacing it with a slow-acting neurotoxin. If I had kept drinking it, I would have eventually lost my mind. You were planning to lock me away in a psychiatric ward, quietly eliminate my children, and then take over the entire Don family fortune without any suspicion."
Listening to every single word, Nathan shook uncontrollably.
She had known. She had known everything.
His face twisted into an ugly, furious snarl. Every word was practically spat through his teeth. "So you gave me a taste of my own medicine? Your secretly fed me the same poison?"
When had he consumed it?
Why hadn't he felt anything?
Wendy smiled radiantly. "Exactly. Do you remember that period when you were constantly disoriented and hallucinating? That was my doing. needed you distracted so could rapidly transfer all my assets and drain my company, faking billions in debt. If it hadn't been for that massive fake debt, do you really think you would have agreed to a
divorce so easily?"
Wendy beamed as she laid out the brutal truth. "I orchestrated everything. I planned it all myself."
Staring up at her standing victorious and untouchable, Nathan felt a surge of explosive hatred.
He clenched his fists so tightly that, if his nails had been sharper, he would have torn his own palms open.
"Wendy, you're despicable!" Nathan roared in fury.
His chest tightened, and a sharp, suffocating pain radiated through his heart.
Wendy leaned in slightly. Looking flawless in her elegant makeup, she flashed him a dazzling smile.
"Despicable, Nathan? How am I despicable?m telling you, this is just the beginning of my revenge. What I've done doesn't even amount to a fraction of your cruelty. Why is it that was supposed to just smile and take it when you tried to destroy me, but the moment I give it back, you completely fall apart?"
