"Joanna, just tell me what you need. You're my sister. I'd give my life for you."
Joanna laughed gently. "Don't be so dramatic. I would never ask you to sacrifice your life. It's just a small favor."
"I've had my eye on a piece of land recently, and it's owned by Mr. Woodard. Since you're in the same circle as him, I was wondering if you could help me buy it."
Colin felt a pang of awkwardness. After all, he had lost last night.
Taylor had won, and now he'd been kicked out of the racing scene.
"Joanna, I got kicked out. It's because of Natalie. I lost a race yesterday and asked Natalie to bail me out, but she set me up. Mr. Woodard won't let me race with them anymore. On top of that, Mom cut off my allowance, so now I can't even come up with a million dollars." The more Colin spoke, the angrier he became. It was all Natalie's fault.
Joanna sounded genuinely surprised. "Colin, how could that happen? What did Natalie do? Did she get Mr. Woodard to kick you out? And how does she even know Mr. Woodard?"
Colin, unwilling to let Joanna know what an incompetent brother she had, fabricated a story. "Natalie seduced Mr. Woodard. Joanna, which piece of land are you interested in?"
"The plot at the foot of the hills. It's the least valuable piece of land Mr. Woodard owns. But if I buy it now, it might appreciate in value later. A friend of mine said the scenery there is beautiful, and it might be zoned for tourism."
Colin was stunned. Could Natalie have known the land was going to increase in value too? Was that why she made a bet on that specific plot last night?
"Joanna, have you ever mentioned this land to Natalie?"
Joanna laughed. "Colin, I haven't mentioned it to her. I heard from a friend that the area might be developed for tourism in the future. I thought if I bought it, it could be worth many times more lateron. You know I'm busy filming right now and can't come back, so had to ask you for help.”
Colin was shocked. Then how did Natalie know about this land? "Joanna, Natalie has already bought that land. Mr. Woodard came here in person this morning to handle the paperwork it's probably finalized by now. She went inside a while ago."
“What? Where did Natalie get the money to buy land? Was it from Sebastian?” Joanna's voice rose involuntarily, as if her own money had been taken.
Colin thought of Sebastian. "Joanna, hold on. I'll call Sebastian and get him to give you the land for free."
On the other end of the line, Joanna choked. What gave Colin the audacity to think Sebastian would just hand the land over to her?
Colin hung up and immediately called Sebastian.
"Hello," Sebastian's voice was as deep as ever.
“Sebastian, it's like this. Joanna has her eye on that piece of land. Natalie used your money to buy it, and as it happens, Joanna wanted that same plot."
"Natalie is just a country bumpkin. What does she know about real estate development? It would be
better to give the land to Joannanet
You've always doted on her since you were kids, giving hot whatever she wanted. Once you divorce Natalie and marry Joanna, it will be your joint marital property anyway."
Sebastian was on his way to a morning meeting. Hearing Colin's words, a sneer crossed his face. He actually thought, like all these other fools, that Natalie was just a country girl.
It was true what they said: spending time with idiots really does make you stupid.
