Miriam was speechless.

The cold seemed to seep directly into her bones. The airport was freezing to begin with, and she had spent the entire night shivering. Now, hearing Harper's words, her mind went completely blank.

"You're in Yoreland?" Harper asked in disbelief.

"Yeah, I... I came here the day before yesterday," Miriam replied mechanically, barely recognizing her own voice.

Hearing this, Harper's brain short-circuited.

"Wait a minute, what kind of sick joke is this wedding? One of you cheats the night before, and the other is in a different country on the day of the ceremony?"

What kind of marriage was this supposed to be?

"I..." Miriam choked on her words.

"Seriously, why on earth would you go abroad right now?" Harper demanded.

"It was an emergency," Miriam whispered. "My boss's girlfriend ran away again, so I..."

"Ran away again?" Harper yelled, completely bewildered.

Harper worked as an assistant for Jeremy Patel, while Miriam worked for Uriah Horner. Harper had always felt a deep sense of sympathy for her sister. Having a boss with an unstable love life was pure torture. Miriam had been dragged into cleaning up Uriah's messy relationships with his girlfriend and his sister more times than anyone could count.

Harper was sick of hearing about Uriah's runaway girlfriend. But this time was different.

"Listen to me! You were supposed to get married today! Is this really the time to help your boss chase after his girlfriend? What is wrong with your head?"

Harper felt bad for her sister, but she was also incredibly frustrated with her.

Tears finally spilled down Miriam's cheeks as she sobbed into the phone. "Is my wedding completely over?"

Harper sighed heavily. "Yes."

She forwarded the screenshots from Twitter to Miriam. Miriam opened them, and the remaining warmth drained from her body. It felt colder than the blizzard raging outside.

This was what it felt like to have your entire world shatter in an instant. No wonder Gideon hadn't answered any of her calls last night. He was busy doing that.

Tears streamed down her face. "Harper, I..."

"Just hang tight. I'm going to go kill that woman right now. When are you coming back?"

"There's a massive blizzard in Yoreland," Miriam cried softly. "The airport is on lockdown, and my flight keeps getting delayed."

She had booked a ticket for last

night, hoping to make it back to Portis City before the wedding-

today But the delays had kept piling up. And now, with this news, her life had fallen apart.

Her phone vibrated in her hand. She took a shaky breath and answered the new call. "Hello?"

"You haven't left Yoreland yet, have you?" Uriah Horner's voice came through the speaker, tight with irritation.

"What do you want?" Miriam snapped.

"If you're still in Yoreland, get your ass to the hospital!"

Miriam saw red.

That son of a bitch.

She was already at her breaking point. "I already quit! Are you out of your damn mind?"

With her world collapsing around her, Miriam had absolutely zero patience left for Uriah. How dare he tell her to get her ass over there?

"You miserable bachelor!" she screamed into the phone. "Just because you can't keep a woman, you have to ruin everyone else's marriage too!"

In her grief and rage, Miriam unleashed everything on Uriah.

The phrase 'miserable bachelor' made Uriah's breathing stop entirely.

Miriam broke down, sobbing

hysterically. "You're just awful! If you want to die alone that's your

problem! Why did you have to ruin

my life?!"

She was furious. And on the other end of the line, Uriah was equally furious at being screamed at.

"What the hell are you "

Before he could finish, Miriam cut him off. "My fiancé cheated on me, and it's all your fault!"

Uriah was stunned.

What? His fault?

His brain stalled for a few seconds. "What does that have to do with me?"

Cheating? Just like that? Weren't

they about to get married? If the guy cheated just because Miriam was

delayed on a work trip, he was a piece of trash anyway

"Because you're bad luck!" Miriam sobbed.
