Miriam was stunned.
Quintessa Horner?
She knew that name. Quintessa was a project director at the Horner Group.
Uriah was close to Quintessa.
Quintessa was a social butterfly at the company, always maintaining great relationships. Miriam used to think she was a genuinely good person.
But now?
"Quintessa?" Miriam was absolutely dumbfounded.
"Yes," Harper replied. "Quintessa used to visit the Gills family all the time. Uriah definitely knew about it."
"Now that things have escalated, the Horner and Gills families are absolutely going to arrange a marriage."
Miriam's mind reeled. She could barely process the rest of Harper's words.
All she could hear was *'Quintessa visited the Gills family all the time'* and *'Uriah definitely knew.'* Uriah absolutely had to have known.
Quintessa reported to him almost daily. They were always laughing and joking around.
If Quintessa was being set up to marry into the Gills family, there was no way Uriah was in the dark.
"Miriam, I already slapped Gideon twenty times for you. Just let it go."
"We're from different worlds. Even if you joined the Gills family, with a mother like his, your life would be a living hell."
Even if they were childhood sweethearts...
They were sweethearts divided by massive class lines.
Miriam didn't say a word. She hung up in silence, stepped out of her room, and looked toward the room Tegan had pointed out.
Flames of rage ignited in her eyes, burning hotter and hotter until she completely lost control.
When Tegan delivered the food to Finley, she ran into Skye, who had come looking for her brother.
Skye saw Tegan handing over the takeout, and her mouth twitched as she turned to Finley.
"You made... her... grab you lunch?"
"Yeah. Why?" Finley asked.
Skye stared at him.
*Why?*
She suddenly understood why Finley had been single all these years, and she started doubting Yvonne and Stella's claims that Finley was in love with Tegan.
"Oh man, I'm starving," Finley said.
He took the bag from Tegan. "Thanks. Dinner is on me tonight."
He had barely opened the container when Skye grabbed him by the back of his collar.
"Hey! What are you doing?" Finley jumped, startled by Skye's sudden aggression.
"Get out here," Skye demanded.
"What is your problem now?"
Finley couldn't comprehend why his sister was having another meltdown.
Skye dragged him into an empty hospital room next door, practically throwing him inside.
Finley stumbled, barely keeping his balance.
Skye followed him in and slammed the door shut.
Finley adjusted his collar. "Are you out of your mind?"
"You made Tegan fetch your lunch? Is your brain entirely broken, Finley?"
"It's just lunch. What's the big deal?"
"What's the big deal? Are you completely oblivious? How many more years do you want to stay single?"
Finley was lost for words.
"It's bad enough you're a bachelor, but you're dragging me down with you! God, how did I get stuck with someone as dense as you? I must have had horrible karma in my past life to be cursed with such an idiot."
"What does you being single have to do with me? I..."
"What does it have to do with you? You tell me!"
Seeing him act so clueless, Skye got so angry she started throwing punches and kicks at him.
Her sudden outburst left Finley completely bewildered.
Skye yelled as she hit him, "If you're
trying to win her over, you have to
treat her right! No wonder Mr. Quinn
hates the way you
I talk. Do you have
zero emotional intelligence? Do you
want to die alone?"
"If you want to be a bachelor forever, fine, but don't ruin my life too!"
