Hearing Uriah's demand, Tegan's heart sank like a stone.
When it came to Leslie, she simply had no words left.
Seeing Tegan remain silent while glaring coldly at Uriah, Mrs. Horner grew increasingly anxious.
"At least let her out so she can get medical treatment! Let me see my daughter!"
Not knowing what kind of state her precious Leslie was in was driving Mrs. Horner out of her mind.
Back in Portis City, she had already been unable to eat or sleep.
Now that she was finally here but still couldn't see her daughter, her anxiety had peaked into sheer desperation.
"I have no control over this matter," Tegan stated flatly.
Dropping those words, she turned on her heel to leave.
Seeing Tegan remain unyielding even after she had softened her tone, Mrs. Horner lost her temper completely.
"Tegan, are you really going to be this heartless?" she yelled.
Tegan stopped in her tracks. Without turning around, she narrowed her eyes and said, "Mrs. Horner, please don't insult the concept of 'family bonds'."
Family bonds?
No one in the Horner family had the right to talk to her about bonds. They simply didn't deserve to.
Mrs. Horner was rendered speechless.
Hearing Tegan's freezing tone, her heart plummeted.
How could she...? She was too ruthless.
"Fine then. We will hire the best lawyers in the world for Leslie. Are you absolutely sure you want to face the Horner family in court?"
Tegan closed her eyes briefly. Without gracing her with a response, she walked away.
Finley Yoder stepped out from around the corner, a mocking smirk playing on his lips as he looked at Uriah.
The moment Uriah saw Finley, his temples began to throb violently.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk," Finley clicked his tongue. "Do you genuinely not believe that Tegan was kidnapped by Leslie? Or does your heart just bleed too much for your precious little sister?"
"Shut up!" Uriah snarled.
Tegan's icy indifference had nearly driven him mad; he was in no mood to entertain Finley's taunts.
"Your sister committed kidnapping. She kidnapped the woman you claim to care about. And your grand solution is to take that very woman to court," Finley drawled.
"Uriah, I'm just calling it like I see it. No one is ever going to want anything to do with the Horner family after this. Who in their right mind would join a family that devours people whole?"
Having delivered his piece, Finley turned and left.
Uriah felt like his head was going to explode.
Mrs. Horner stamped her foot in sheer fury. "What kind of terrible people is Tegan associating with?"
"She's really outdone herself! Now
she's teaming up with outsiders tear down the Horner family. these years we..."

"The Horner family didn't raise her. I did," Uriah interrupted her coldly.
His chilling voice cut off his mother's rant before she could finish.
Mrs. Horner froze.
"You never showed her an ounce of affection in all these years. You don't get to call her ungrateful," Uriah stated.
"Did she ever go a day without food on her plate or clothes on her back?" Mrs. Horner shot back defensively.
"None of the things you arranged ever reached her hands."
Mrs. Horner stared at him blankly.
"Leslie took it all!"
Mrs. Horner's breath hitched.
Her face grew exceptionally grim.
"Let's just focus on getting Leslie out first," she finally muttered. She didn't

She had never liked Tegan to begin with, and now her feelings had plunged into outright hatred.
Finley didn't go straight home.
He stopped by a bakery to pick up a dessert first. When he walked through the door,
he found Tegan packing her things.
Skye Yoder stood nearby, looking
utterly in disbelief. "Are you saying Finley re taking you to Ferrowland for Stella's wedding?
Tegan nodded. "Yes."
Skye scratched the back of her head, marveling at the fact that her dense brother had finally figured things out.
Not bad at all.
Her eyes lit up the moment she saw Finley walk in with a small cake box in hand.
Without a word, she immediately scrambled back to her room to hide.
Finley frowned at her retreating figure. "Why are you running? Come eat some cake!"
Skye rolled her eyes from behind her closed door. *That idiot. Doesn't he realize I'm giving them some privacy?*
