Chapter 738

Ariel was right. Lucas wasn’t going to let the Sanderson family off the hook. Since that was the case, mind fanning the flames a little more.

Ariel made her way to the marital home.

The moment she walked in, Georgia rushed over, unloading a flood of words she seemed to have been holding back for a long time. “Mrs. Larkin, you should really go check on Mr. Larkin. He won’t let me tell you, but I can tell he’s not doing well. He’s been like that for quite some time.

“Occasionally, when I stayed up at night, I’d see him in the study in the early hours, still awake. No one can keep that up. Yesterday, he came back already feeling sick. He took some medicine, but there’s still no improvement today.”

Georgia didn’t understand what Jayson was insisting on. She said she would ask Ariel to come stay with him,but he refused, saying he would be fine after a while.

Wouldn’t it be better to have Ariel by his side?

“I’ll go see him,” Ariel said. She already had a good idea why Jayson was sick.

Lately, he had been running himself ragged, handling everything while also worrying about her illness. She had noticed he wasn’t really resting at all.

Georgia quickly said, “Wait here for a moment, Mrs. Larkin. I’ve prepared some oatmeal. Take it upstairs for Mr. Larkin. He needs to eat, or he won’t hold up.”

Ariel looked up at the stairs and nodded. Georgia handed her the bowl, and they went upstairs together.

Passing by the nursery, Ariel couldn’t help but slow her steps. The door was open, and she immediately noticed the changes.

The crib now had some small toys, and the dresser was lined with baby supplies. There were tiny outfits laid out -styles that seemed meant for a girl. The room carried a distinctly feminine theme.

Ariel couldn’t help but feel a little dazed.

When she first found out she was pregnant, she had imagined that if she were healthy, she could personally prepare some of the baby’s things.

But now…

“When did he prepare all this?” she asked, feeling a tightness in her chest.

Georgia paused, a hint of emotion in her voice. “I only noticed them when I came by last week. Mr. Larkin has been making me clean up here every day. It seems he really wishes for a daughter.”

She was probably the only person who had seen Jayson handle these baby supplies in private.

He had carefully unpacked and washed each item. It was a quiet expression of hope for the future.

She had never realized before that Jayson could be so gentle and tender. This home, in fact, was entirely the result of his care and dedication.

Ariel’s eyes grew misty. Jayson had never told her whether he wanted a boy or a girl, yet he had prepared these things for a little girl.

It had been a long time since she lost the baby. It was clear he still hadn’t let go.

Ariel tilted her head up to the ceiling light. In the end, she didn’t dare take another glance at all the little details inside the nursery.

Turning to Georgia, she said, “I’ll take it to him.”

Georgia hurriedly handed over the bowl of oatmeal. Ariel went straight to the master bedroom.

When she pushed the door open, the room was fairly dark, with only a bedside lamp on.

As she stepped closer, she saw Jayson lying there quietly.

His complexion was pale. His brow furrowed even in sleep, and a faint sweat clung to his temples.

A framed photo of the two of them had been placed on the bedside table. The master bedroom no longer felt so

empty.

Ariel set the bowl down and slowly sat beside him. She watched him for a moment before gently patting his hand. “Jayson?”

Before he opened his eyes, he had already taken her hand and pulled her gently toward him. Ariel stumbled slightly, landing against him.

He wrapped his arm around her shoulder. His voice, hoarse and low, brushed against her ear. “I thought I was dreaming.”
