Chapter 1003:
“Heard she’s a research expert. What a joke.”
“Jealousy really brings out the worst in people.”
With just a few pointed remarks, Nola managed to turn the entire crowd against Elena, making her seem like a joke.
Elena couldn’t fathom where Nola got such boldness. Nola was nothing more than a pretender, yet she could act like she had done nothing wrong.
Remaining composed, Elena responded with quiet challenge, “What makes you so sure it wasn’t me?”
Curling her lip in disdain, Nola replied sharply, “You? Please, don’t make me laugh.”
In Nola’s book, when it came to medicine, Elena didn’t even qualify to stand in the same room as her. Elena was nothing more than Wesley’s little diversion. Still, Elena had the nerve to pretend she had ties to the Healer. It was truly outrageous.
“The Healer’s abilities are unmatched, and someone like you has no right to claim any connection with her,” Lucinda sneered, her tone dripping with scorn. “Even if you’re bluffing, at least check the mirror first to see if you’re worth the mention.”
Frustration had completely overtaken Lucinda. Not only was Elena envious of Nola, but now she shamelessly tried to steal the credit. Nola, with her graceful looks, warm heart, and excellence in medical studies, was unmistakably exceptional. It was no surprise that the Healer had noticed her excellence and offered to take her on as a protégé out of appreciation. On the other hand, what could Elena bring to the table? Other than her pretty face, was there anything of substance?
Lucinda said sharply, “If you’re capable of inviting the Healer over, I’ll eat my hat!”
Without missing a beat, Elena replied, “For God’s sake, spare me that kind of antics.”
“You!” That remark left Lucinda seething. Her breathing grew heavy, and her face turned red with rage. After taking a few moments to calm herself, she blurted out, “You have offended the Healer! Let’s see how long your arrogance lasts!”
A chill passed over Nola’s expression, and she carried herself with a calm, composed presence, as if she were truly a protégé of the Healer. “Deputy Commander Aston, someone like her doesn’t belong at the Azure Dragon Unit Base.”
Lamont felt a conflict rise within him. He wanted to show Elena leniency for the sake of Wesley, the grandson of his retired superior, but considering the Healer had just saved his life and Nola was the Healer’s protégé, his allegiance was clear. Folding his arms behind his back, he fixed Elena with a cold, unwavering stare, ready to issue a harsh warning.

At that moment, the base’s liaison officer came rushing in from outside. “Deputy Commander Aston, Dr. Sampson from Klathe Hospital is waiting at the gate.”
Glenn furrowed his brows in surprise. “Davey Sampson? Isn’t he Klathe’s leading cardiac specialist? Why would he come all the way here?”
“Most likely, he caught wind that the Healer’s protégé is present and came specifically to meet Dr. Vance.”
Glenn gave a thoughtful nod and said, “That explains it.”
Lamont gave a nod and told the liaison officer to let Davey in.
Even before Davey appeared, his voice rang out clearly across the courtyard. “I am here for you, Healer!”
Excitement was written all over Davey’s face. The moment news broke that the “Healer” had operated on Lamont at the Azure Dragon Unit Base, he rushed there immediately. He knew it was actually Elena, the protégé of the legendary Healer, who had performed the operation, since the Healer herself had passed away ten years ago.
