Chapter 1161:

Minutes passed before resolve crept back into his features. “You mean that?” His voice had a hard edge, as if he might be ready to gamble everything.

Without hesitation, Elena assured him, “I never go back on my word.”

Nerves tense, Lyle clenched his jaw. “Fine. I’ll tell you everything. All those medical records are fabrications. Not a single organ comes from a legitimate donor. Only Dewayne knows where they come from. No matter how mild a case is, Dewayne insists every patient get a transplant. Post-surgery, patients often experience rejection due to the organs’ dubious source.” Pausing, he went on. “Some patients have minor symptoms, yet they are forcibly subjected to organ removal. The hospital even removes the patients’ other healthy organs just to charge them dearly for replacements. Whether the patients could make it, it doesn’t matter. Since patients sign a waiver upon admission, the hospital bears no responsibility.”

Lyle’s hands shook with a mixture of fear and relief as he spilled out the truth. From the moment he discovered all this, he had been trapped in a never-ending nightmare. Every attempt to change the situation ended with isolation, pressure from above, and veiled threats against his safety. Reporting the crime accomplished nothing. His whistleblowing landed right back on Dewayne’s desk, ignored and unread. Though he wasn’t afraid of death, his family kept him silent, turning him into another “deaf” and “blind” witness.

A question from Elena broke through his thoughts. “Do you have proof to support what you’re saying?”

Her calm voice had a miraculous effect, gradually soothing Lyle. A quiet nod was his answer. “Yes, I have backups of all the materials I’ve collected.”

Elena knew she had found the right person. “Get them to me. Every file you have.”

Lyle hesitated for a moment but couldn’t help asking, “Are you really going to see this through?”

Elena’s reply left no room for doubt. “Trust me. Not a single one of them will escape what’s coming.”

Elena stepped into the corridor and came face-to-face with Dewayne, who was clearly lingering with intent, as if he’d been posted there just for her.

Dewayne shot a menacing glance at Lyle before shifting his gaze to Elena, his expression suddenly turning nonchalant.

That silent threat sent a chill up Lyle’s spine. He understood perfectly well that the look in Dewayne’s eyes carried a stark warning. It was not the first time he had received such a chilling signal from Dewayne.

Every muscle in Lyle’s body remembered Dewayne’s warning before Elena’s arrival—a reminder to keep quiet for the sake of his family’s safety. Those words had haunted him for hours. Yet now, something inside him had shifted. Faith in Elena gave him courage he hadn’t felt before.

With a deep breath, Lyle gathered himself and strode down the stairs on his own.

Elena, meanwhile, stood her ground, arms folded, her gaze locked on Dewayne. “Director Nguyen, how considerate of you to wait around just to escort me out.” Mockery sharpened her words.

Dewayne’s jaw tightened, his mood growing stormy. The audacity of this woman! How dare she address him like that? So what if she was the Healer? The world might revere her, but he wasn’t about to bow down to her. This was Yoswye—and the man backing him was even more powerful than the King. A young woman and a nominal princess trying to shake the foundations of Gleyross Hospital? Dream on!

With an icy chuckle, Dewayne replied, “You’re still too young, Healer. Don’t throw away your future over arrogance.”

A single arched eyebrow was Elena’s only reaction. “I appreciate the concern, but maybe you should worry more about explaining things to the patients’ families,” she shot back coolly.
