Chapter 1190:
Elena looked away from Torin and spoke in a steady voice. “You got shot, not hit by some love spell, so quit acting weird.”
The military doctor, who had been digging through his medical bag for supplies, suddenly froze. He blinked hard, wondering if he had heard her correctly.
Torin sat close by and chuckled softly.
That was when the doctor knew he hadn’t misheard. He couldn’t stop himself from glancing at Elena again and again. Who was this woman, daring to speak to the Duke of Blackwood like that? Yet the Duke of Blackwood didn’t get angry at all. He actually laughed. It was more shocking than seeing pigs grow wings and fly.
Torin’s lips curved into a grin. “Satisfied with my physique?”
Elena’s lips twitched, but she didn’t bother to reply.
The military doctor prepared his tools and began extracting the bullet. His methods were far rougher than those of ordinary physicians. After cleaning the wound, he simply cut the skin open, inserted his metal instruments, and yanked the bullet out. He used no anesthetic—just quick, direct action.
Both the doctor and Torin treated it as completely normal, as if it were a routine procedure.
Elena, however, was the only one visibly disturbed. Throughout the doctor’s work, Torin never took his eyes off her. Irritated, she scowled and turned away to avoid his gaze.
“Turn back around.” Torin’s deep, rough voice rumbled from behind her.
Elena pretended not to hear.
Before she realized it, a strong hand gripped her shoulder and spun her back.
Torin had risen from the couch and forced her to face him.
The military doctor stopped dead in his tracks, still holding his surgical knife. Elena couldn’t find her voice. The doctor stared in shock, frozen with disbelief. Both of them were completely stunned.
What on earth was Torin thinking?

Elena’s face tightened in puzzlement as she wondered if Torin had completely lost his mind. Here he was, disrupting his position in the middle of a medical procedure.
The military doctor had never, in his entire career, seen a patient get up and move around during surgery.
Torin didn’t look embarrassed at all. Instead, he said, “You’re better than any painkiller I could take.”
The doctor felt like groaning inwardly. He couldn’t believe he was forced to listen to such corny romantic talk while performing surgery.
Elena raised her hand and pressed hard against Torin’s bloody wound. “How’s that feel for you?”
Torin let out a low grunt, and a devilish smile spread across his face. “I’ll take whatever you want to give me and love every second of it.”
The military doctor desperately wished he could shut off his hearing. This entire situation was torture. Finally, he couldn’t stand it anymore and interrupted them. “Your Grace, the bullet is still stuck inside you. Could we please finish this operation?”
The doctor was genuinely worried that if they wasted any more time with this nonsense, Torin might actually bleed to death from his own recklessness. Thankfully, Torin didn’t pull any more stunts after that.
