Chapter 1256:

Outside, however, chaos had erupted.

The army was in the midst of a full-blown rebellion, and Torin had been ambushed at the military base. Rebels and loyal soldiers, all dressed alike, fought in a wild and frenzied battle, making it impossible to tell the sides apart.

Torin took a hit during the attack.

As midnight dragged on, gunfire filled the darkness around the base, while the smell of gunpowder hung heavy in the air.

Communications had gone out, and every defense system had failed. The rebels gained ground quickly as the local soldiers slipped away.

Two hours later, local soldiers had been pushed back into a single building. Torin, shielded by them, retreated inside.

The army general appeared at his side. “Your Grace, we found out who’s behind this. Cade Fowler from the Ninth Regiment is leading the rebels. The base is under their control now.”

Torin’s arm bled freely, his stare hard as steel. “Cade?”

A solemn nod came from the general. “That’s right. Major General Fowler is the one orchestrating the rebellion. Your Grace, there’s still a backup aircraft on the roof. You should evacuate now—the rebels are about to break through.”

The predatory focus in Torin’s eyes sharpened, a cold glint flashing as he processed the news. A mocking grin appeared on his face. “The real excitement starts now. Tell all soldiers to hide around the perimeter, but leave a handful behind to guard the stairwell and the windows.”

Puzzled, the general furrowed his brow. “Your Grace, doesn’t that just make it easy for the rebels to break in?”

Torin shot him a glare, offering not a single reason for his plan.

The general tensed, bowing his head without another word. “Understood. I’ll see to it right away!”

As the moment sank in, the general bit back a curse, furious with himself for ever doubting Torin. Without delay, he turned and gave fresh commands for the squad leaders to shift positions.

As Torin issued his orders, the rebels poured into the building.

Most of the local soldiers had already vanished from sight, leaving just a few guards—and Torin—inside.

On the rooftop, Torin stood tall, his eyes steady as he watched the rebels draw closer.

It didn’t take long before Cade stepped onto the rooftop.

Weapons raised, the rebels kept Torin squarely in their sights.

Cade locked eyes with Torin, his lips curling into a twisted grin. “Your Grace, I never thought I’d see this day come.” He had been counting down to this moment for years.

Torin had ruled the military for too long, and Cade saw no reason why he shouldn’t seize that power for himself. Now, his opportunity had finally arrived, and the satisfaction showed on his face.
