Chapter 1270:

“Jeffry!” Malcolm called, hurrying to catch up. “Where exactly are you going?”

Jeffry didn’t waste a moment. He strode straight toward the dock and hopped onto the nearest boat with a heavy thud.

The boat owner pointed at Jeffry, trying to chase him off. “Who the hell are you? This is my boat. Get off right now!”

Without hesitation, Jeffry pulled a thick bundle of cash from his pocket and tossed it at the owner. “Will this cover a day’s rent? Take it or leave it.” The owner’s face brightened as he clutched the cash, eyes wide in disbelief. He managed a quick nod. “Absolutely! No problem!”

A month of hard work at sea wouldn’t have brought in half as much as what Jeffry just handed him. The owner felt as if he’d hit the jackpot that day.

Fearing Jeffry might change his mind, the owner scrambled off the boat, practically tripping over himself in his hurry to give up his prized vessel. Jeffry wasted no time after that. He hauled up the anchor, fired up the engine, and guided the boat away from the crowded dock.

Just as the boat started moving, Malcolm appeared at the last second, making a daring leap and barely landing on the deck.

Malcolm reached out and gave Jeffry’s shoulder a reassuring pat, searching for something comforting to say.

Some things couldn’t be sugarcoated. Surviving a plane crash rarely happened, but Malcolm kept that thought to himself. He knew Jeffry wouldn’t listen.

Malcolm had witnessed the tangled history between Jeffry and Lydia—how quickly Jeffry went from collected to reckless whenever she was involved. He understood that Jeffry might not be able to move on from losing her.

Throughout all of this, not a hint of emotion crossed Jeffry’s face. He stared straight ahead, eyes locked on the patch of sea where the wreckage had disappeared.

Waves stretched in every direction as the boat drifted farther from shore. Malcolm’s eyes flicked to the horizon. He started to say something about how hopeless their search looked, but the words froze in his throat when he realized Jeffry was missing. Then, the sharp sound of water broke the silence.

Without warning, Jeffry had thrown himself into the sea.

Disbelief washed over Malcolm. He blinked, half expecting it to be a trick of the light, but Jeffry had vanished beneath the rolling surface.

“Damn it! Have you completely lost your mind?” Malcolm shouted, straining his voice as he hurled his words toward the open water. “Jeffry, get out of there! That’s not how you’re going to find her! Do you have a death wish?”

Years of friendship had never prepared Malcolm for this kind of recklessness from Jeffry. Plunging deeper, Jeffry felt the world growing stranger, the pressure building in his ears until everything seemed unreal. Sound faded, replaced by his own pounding heart.

Even with his limbs growing heavier, Jeffry kept moving, driven by one desperate thought. He wasn’t leaving until he found Lydia. No scuba mask, no air supply, nothing but determination kept him going.
