Chapter 1295:
Wesley pressed closer, not backing down. “You still haven’t answered me. When did you and Felix get so friendly?”
Annoyance flickered across Elena’s face. “Asking about him doesn’t mean anything. Felix is your assistant, not mine.”
No embarrassment touched Wesley. “He’ll be working at the Huemnard branch by tomorrow.”
Elena’s brow knitted in frustration. Was he really going to drag this out? She decided she was done arguing and changed the subject. “Are you going to eat or not?”
Wesley wasn’t truly worried about Elena and Felix. Hearing another man’s name from her lips was simply something he couldn’t ignore. Noticing her hunger, he let the matter drop and picked up some food, holding it out to her. “Here, have some.”
Throughout the meal, Elena didn’t have to lift a finger.
Wesley took genuine pleasure in caring for her—bathing her, getting her dressed, drying her hair, or feeding her by hand. It all felt natural to him.
When they finished, he reached over and gently wiped the corner of her mouth.
A moment later, he remarked, “My grandfather misses you. He wants you to join us for dinner at Hillside Manor.”
Elena gave a quick nod. “Sure, I’ll just go home and change first.”
His gaze landed on the outfit he’d picked out for her—a white knit top with a blue skirt. To him, she looked like a portrait come to life, all elegance and poise. A hint of darkness flickered in his eyes as he swallowed hard. He suddenly didn’t feel like going out. His voice grew low and husky. “Do you not like this outfit?”
“I like it, but it’s a bit too loose now, and not really practical for going out,” Elena replied.
His large hand found her waist, fingers easily circling her now slimmer frame. Compared to before their trip to Yoswye, she had shed a noticeable amount of weight. He realized he’d chosen clothes based on her old size, but they hung on her differently now.
Self-reproach flickered across Wesley’s face. Her search for him had worn her down—her waist had shrunk, and her face now looked sharper and more delicate.

A dull ache settled in his chest as he stroked her cheek. “It’s my oversight. I’ll take you back to change.”
Silently, he promised himself he would help her regain her lost weight and bring that rosy hue back to her face.
Meanwhile, at Plum Mansion, Karen was preparing to head to Hillside Manor to accompany her grandfather.
Zoie pulled Karen aside, her voice low. “Are you on your way to Hillside Manor?”
Karen gave a small nod. “Yeah, why?”
It caught Karen off guard. Normally, Zoie didn’t ask about her visits to Hillside Manor. What made today different?
With a rare trace of emotion in her tone, Zoie remarked, “Gerald’s getting older, and he must be lonely living there all by himself.”
