Chapter 1305:
Gerald slowly shook his head in disappointment. He had clearly misjudged Elena. No matter how skilled she was as a healer, her temper made her unfit, at least in his eyes, to become the future lady of the Spencer household. “Regardless of the reason,” he remarked, “you shouldn’t have raised your hand against her.”
Elena was stunned. She hadn’t expected Gerald to pass judgment so quickly without asking for an explanation. She had always pegged him as calm and fair, not someone who jumped to conclusions.
What she didn’t realize was that once a person formed a bias, it was hard for them to see things clearly. Gerald had already formed a biased opinion about her.
Before Elena could say anything, Wesley stepped in and wrapped an arm around her protectively. His gaze was icy, and his voice was firm, unyielding. “So what if she slapped Zoie? Elena is my girlfriend. Just because you’re older doesn’t give you the right to order her around.”
Lawrence exploded, red with anger. “You ungrateful little brat!”
Gerald’s expression turned just as dark.
But Wesley stood tall and calm, not backing down. “If anyone dares to touch her again, they’ll answer to me.”
With those words, he took Elena’s hand and walked out, leaving the rest of them behind—angry and speechless.
Zoie stirred the pot, trying to drive a deeper wedge between Gerald and Elena. “Gerald, just look at Wesley and Elena. They don’t even bother to hide it now. There’s no respect—for you, for the family, or for tradition. That girl isn’t even part of the family yet, and she’s already making Wesley go against you. Just think what could happen if she actually became your granddaughter-in-law. She might try to take the Spencer Group for herself!”
Lawrence, always quick to anger, slammed his fist on the armrest. “We couldn’t let that happen! If that idiot Wesley really plans to hand over the Spencer Group to that woman, he’s not fit to lead anything!”
Zoie kept her gaze trained on Gerald’s expression. The deeper the crease between his brows grew, the more satisfaction sparked in her eyes. So what if Elena was the Harper family’s gem? It made little difference.

To Zoie, Elena was just a small-town girl with no class or polish, chasing a dream far out of her league.
Zoie figured that as long as Wesley kept defending Elena, Gerald would grow more irritated. And when that time came, her son Theo could finally step into Wesley’s shoes and take the position he should have had all along. Both Wesley and Theo had Spencer blood. So why should Wesley run everything while Theo didn’t even have a seat at the table? In her eyes, Theo deserved at least half of the Spencer fortune, if not more.
Lawrence jumped in, louder this time. “Dad, you’ve always spoiled Wesley. Are you really just going to sit back and let him ruin everything you built? For the sake of a woman, he’s already disrespectful toward us. That’s not love—it’s recklessness! He doesn’t have the maturity to lead this family!”
Gerald’s face darkened further, but not for the reason Lawrence hoped. His eyes turned cold as he shot a look at Lawrence. “And you think you’re any better than Wesley to say that?”
