Chapter 1309:
The moment Elena stepped inside, Jolie came rushing over with a wide smile. “My sweet girl, you’re finally back! I missed you so much,” she said, throwing her arms around Elena.
Elena smiled softly and returned the hug. When she had first rejoined the Harper family, she hadn’t been used to such affectionate gestures. But now, she welcomed them. She could truly feel the warmth and care of her family. Alexander stepped forward and lightly patted her head. “You’ve lost weight. Did you have dinner?”
Elena nodded. “Yes, I did.”
Jolie took her hand affectionately and guided her to the sofa.
Louis, who had been lounging alone on a single-seater, wasted no time. The moment he saw Elena settle in, he scooted over to the larger couch and plopped down next to her, throwing an arm casually over her shoulder. “Seriously, Elena, you were gone forever. Mom was on edge every single day.” He gave her a playful grin. “Next time, take me with you. I’m clever, and I give solid advice.”
His tone was light and teasing, but his sincerity was clear. He had missed her, and he wasn’t the only one.
Elena had been away for more than two weeks, and everyone in the Harper family had been worried sick. Now that she was finally home, they weren’t going to let her wander off again. She wasn’t alone—not with them around.
Elena didn’t resist his good intentions and nodded. “Okay, I’ll take you next time.”
Louis’s face lit up instantly. That was more like it. Then, with a cheeky glint in his eyes, he leaned closer and gave her a little nudge. “So, tell me what’s going on between you and the Duke of Blackwood? His proposal’s been all over the news in Klathe. Don’t tell me you ditched Wesley for him?”
Though Alexander and Jolie stayed silent, their ears were definitely tuned in. They had also heard about Torin’s public proposal. They hadn’t brought it up, wanting to respect Elena’s privacy, but now that Louis had cracked the door open, their curiosity was impossible to hide.
After all, Elena had just said she was with Wesley, and now the story of the Duke’s proposal had spread like wildfire. So who was she really in love with? Wesley? Torin?

One thing was for sure—the Harper family had made up their minds. It didn’t matter who Elena ended up with, as long as she was happy. And if she happened to like both? Well, that was fine too.
Louis leaned back a bit, still watching her with those curious eyes. “Look, even though that Duke is from Yoswye, if you like him, let him move here. Problem solved.”
Alexander and Jolie both nodded, quietly showing their support.
Elena, however, was caught off guard and didn’t know what to say at first. Did they really think she was that fickle? After a moment, she spoke up. “Louis, I’m not someone who falls for just anyone. Things between Wesley and me are going well, and I’m not looking to change a boyfriend.”
Louis let out a soft chuckle, scratching his head with a sheepish smile, though he looked a little let down. How on earth had Wesley, of all people, managed to win over someone like Elena?
