Chapter 1319:
All the color drained from Samira’s face. She couldn’t believe the same manager who’d been so welcoming before was now treating her like a nuisance. With Zoie being a Spencer, Samira knew better than to make things worse. She swallowed her pride, set the handbag back on the counter, and left the store feeling completely humiliated.
Anger simmered as she made her way straight to the Harper estate. She found Elena and Jolie looking over jewelry selections.
Storming over, Samira shouted, “Elena, what disgraceful things have you been doing outside?”
Elena’s gaze shot up from her phone, her tone icy. “Would you like to repeat that?”
Jolie’s expression tightened as she looked up. “Samira, what exactly are you accusing Elena of? Elena is my daughter. Watch how you speak. She’s always been respectful and hasn’t caused any problems. Maybe you should be reflecting on your own actions.”
If Samira weren’t family, Jolie would have called the butler to escort her out by now.
Back when Elena first reconnected with the Harper family, Samira had made her life difficult more than once. Things had quieted down a bit after Elyse left for overseas, and Jolie had hoped Samira would begin a new chapter. But with Samira once again speaking ill of Elena, Jolie’s patience finally snapped.
“You owe Elena a real apology,” Jolie demanded.
Samira’s anger flared, and she flat-out refused to say sorry. If Elena hadn’t done something disgraceful, Zoie wouldn’t have had any reason to bring Elena up or humiliate her in public.
Samira jabbed a finger at Elena, her voice sharp. “Jolie, don’t let her fool you. She might act all sweet at home, but out in Klathe, everyone knows she’s shamelessly running after men. Even the Spencers have started gossiping about it! If you don’t believe me, just ask your precious daughter.”
Pausing, she added, “Elena has dragged the Harper family’s name through the mud and made me look ridiculous in front of Mrs. Zoie Spencer! She should apologize to Mr. Gerald Spencer and Mrs. Zoie Spencer. If she doesn’t set things right, and the Spencers decide to retaliate in business, we won’t stand a chance!”
While both the Harper and Spencer families ranked among Klathe’s elite, the Spencers had influence in every corner—from the courts to the city’s underbelly—and their fortune dwarfed anything the Harpers could claim. Crossing them would spell disaster.
Samira’s glare at Elena was full of accusation.
Before Elena could reply, Jolie jumped in. “Absolutely not! I don’t know where you’re getting these stories, but I trust Elena more than anyone. Only a fool would take gossip at face value. Keep talking like this, and I’ll tell Alexander everything that happened today. If it comes to it, we’ll break off all business with the Spencer”
“Family and cut them out of our lives. And as for you—if you’re so embarrassed by Elena, maybe it’s time I make our split public.”
Hearing the threat of cutting ties, Samira’s bravado crumbled, and panic flickered across her face. She couldn’t let that happen. Vince’s business relied on Alexander’s support, and losing it would be catastrophic.
