Chapter 1337:

Getting no answers from Elena, Karen felt completely lost. Disappointment sat heavily in her chest. As far as she was concerned, Wesley had already crossed a line. He was with Elena, yet he got Cathy pregnant. Nothing could justify that.

A sip of coffee made Karen grimace. The sharp bitterness felt like a punishment.

Elena slid a glass of water toward her. “Karen, what’s really on your mind?”

Gulping the water, Karen tried to find her words and finally managed to say, “I owe you an apology, Elena. I mean it. I’m sorry.” Protecting her brother meant swallowing the truth.

Watching her carefully, Elena betrayed no emotion. “And what exactly are you apologizing for?”

Honesty felt impossible, so Karen offered a safer reason. “I apologize for how my family acted toward you the day Wesley brought you home. I really am sorry for what happened.”

A dismissive wave from Elena followed. “If that’s all it is, you don’t have to worry about it.”

On impulse, Karen stood up. “Elena, just be careful. Don’t put too much trust in the people around you. Not everyone is as honest as they seem.”

Before Elena could press her for details, Karen made her escape and hurried away.

Elena arched her eyebrow in quiet puzzlement. Who was Karen referring to? After taking care of the bill, Elena left the café.

Meanwhile, at the Garrett estate, with Cathy’s pregnancy bringing disgrace to the family, tension simmered in every room.

Kirby’s temper reached a boiling point. He was set on confronting Gerald face to face.

At the Spencer estate, the air was thick with tension.

Kirby sat there, his face dark with displeasure, deliberately refusing to show any sign of friendliness toward Gerald.

Ever since Wesley went to the Garrett estate to break off the nominal engagement with Cathy, Kirby and Gerald hadn’t interacted in a long time. Gerald, initially composed, waited for Kirby to speak, but no matter how long he waited, Kirby remained silent.

Eventually, Gerald cleared his throat and broke the tense silence. “So, what brings you here today? You’ve been sitting there giving me nothing but silence this whole time. What’s this about?”

Kirby, already fuming, snapped. “You’ve got some nerve asking me that. After what Wesley has done, you should be coming to my place to apologize, instead of me traveling over and knocking on your door!”

Gerald assumed that Kirby was still angry about Wesley calling off the engagement. The Spencer family had dropped the ball, and the Garretts had every right to be furious.

“We’re not getting any younger,” Gerald said, trying to keep things civil. “Let’s not get too involved in the younger generation’s issues. Wesley made a mistake, and I apologize on his behalf.”
