Chapter 1342:

In the days that followed, Zoie stopped by the Spencer manor a few times, but Gerald refused to see her.

At the Garrett estate, Cathy had been resting indoors for several days, and thankfully, her morning sickness had eased up.

Bored out of her mind, she didn’t hesitate for a second when her friends texted her about going shopping.

After being cooped up for so long, she was more than ready to get out. She dressed up, grabbed her purse, and headed straight out the door.

They met up at Garrett Fine Jewelry, where Yvette was trying on rings for her upcoming wedding. She slid a thirty-carat diamond ring onto her finger and admired how it sparkled under the lights. “Cathy, how does this look on me?” she asked eagerly.

Cathy glanced at her, clearly unimpressed. “It’s only thirty carats. What’s so special about that? Have you made up your mind or not?”

Yvette’s face turned red with embarrassment. She quickly took off the ring and told the saleswoman she didn’t want it anymore. Her family wasn’t nearly as influential and wealthy as the Garretts, and it showed. What impressed her was something Cathy didn’t even bat an eye at.

Trying to change the subject, Yvette asked with a hopeful smile, “Cathy, you’ve been back in Klathe for a while now, but you’ve barely gone out. I’m getting married soon… Will you be my bridesmaid?”

There was a reason behind the question. If someone like Cathy, with her powerful background, stood next to her on her big day, it would make a strong impression on her husband’s family.

But Cathy didn’t even stop to think and replied right away, “No way.”

Yvette’s smile instantly disappeared. She looked hurt and confused. “Why not? You’re my best friend. Don’t you want to be there with me on my big day?”

Cathy let out a quiet sigh and placed a hand on her belly. “I’m pregnant.”

She wasn’t trying to hide it. Yvette was a close friend, and she saw no reason to.

However, Yvette didn’t believe her. “Seriously? If you didn’t want to be my bridesmaid, you could’ve just said so. No need to make up something so ridiculous.”

Tradition said bridesmaids had to be unmarried and not pregnant, so Yvette assumed Cathy had fabricated the pregnancy to get out of it.

Cathy gave her a look. “I’m not lying. Believe it or not—it’s your call.”

Yvette was stunned into silence. Cathy’s tone was too serious to be a joke. Once the truth sank in, Yvette’s eyes widened in shock. “Wait, weren’t you in love with Wesley? How did you end up getting pregnant all of a sudden?”

Cathy rolled her eyes. “Do you have to talk so loud? Do you want to announce it to the whole store?”

Yvette quickly covered her mouth and shook her head. Then she leaned in, lowering her voice. “Is the baby Wesley’s?”

It wasn’t an unreasonable question. As far as Yvette knew, Wesley was the only man Cathy had ever been interested in. Who else could it possibly be?
