Chapter 1346:

Wesley glanced at Felix, and catching the hint, Felix stepped forward and slapped Yvette across the face.

Yvette stumbled back, her hand flying to her cheek in disbelief and outrage. Wesley didn’t even flinch. His voice remained cool and steady. “Who exactly are you calling scheming?”

Yvette opened her mouth, ready to point at Elena—but she didn’t dare. Instead, she turned to Cathy. “Cathy, say something! Wesley’s right here. Why won’t he just admit the truth? The baby is his, isn’t it?”

Cathy’s glare was scalding. If this idiot hadn’t been running her mouth nonstop, Wesley wouldn’t have even shown up.

“I already told you—it was a misunderstanding. Why can’t you get that through your head?”

With that, Cathy pushed all the blame onto Yvette.

Yvette stood there, completely thrown. “But that’s not what you said earlier…”

Worried Yvette might let something slip, Cathy quickly cut her off. “I never claimed the baby was Wesley’s—you jumped to conclusions.”

Yvette stood frozen, completely thrown off. “Cathy, really?”

Cathy had indeed never said the baby was Wesley’s outright—but when asked, she hadn’t denied it either. Now, in the blink of an eye, she changed her tune. Tears welled in Cathy’s eyes as she crafted her expression into one of innocence. Her voice trembled ever so slightly as she turned to Wesley. “I swear, Wesley, I never said anything like that. She just misunderstood. None of this is my fault.”

Wesley’s eyes narrowed. “Oh, just cut it out, Cathy.”

Cathy froze. For a second, she completely forgot to keep up her act. Then, without warning, Wesley called her out. “Should I go ahead and tell everyone who the baby’s father really is?”

Cathy’s worst fear stared her in the face. If people found out she’d gotten pregnant from a drunken one-night stand, how would she face anyone? Her grandfather would be the first to come down on her.

She wrung her hands and shook her head in panic. “Wesley, I saved you out on the open sea. You promised you’d help me. You can’t…”

But Wesley’s face remained cold. Yes, she’d found and saved him that day, and he’d promised to deal with Kirby—but he never said he’d take the fall. “I’ll keep my word,” he said.

Cathy’s eyes lit up for a second, thinking she was finally getting through to him. But Wesley wasn’t finished. “But that doesn’t allow you to twist things. Sure, you were the first to see me that day, but it was Carola who actually pulled me out and helped me. I said I’d handle Kirby for you, and I did. That was already more than enough. And now you’re letting people think the baby is mine, just hoping I’ll feel obligated to step up and take responsibility?”

His voice was calm, but his eyes warned her not to push any further.

Cathy turned pale. She shook her head over and over. “No, that’s not what I meant…”
