Chapter 1349:

“Watch where you’re going!” the janitor snapped.

Zoie didn’t even hear him. Her mind was racing, like her soul had just been knocked right out of her. She didn’t stick around to double-check. Scrambling to her feet, she fled the mall like something terrifying was on her tail.

She jumped into her car and headed straight for Joseph’s place.

Since Joseph was currently sidelined at work, he was home.

The moment she arrived, she didn’t even bother knocking and used her fingerprint to unlock the door and walk right in.

Joseph looked up, surprised. “Why did you come at this hour? Did anyone see you come in?”

But Zoie was too rattled to think, let alone care about being seen. The second she saw him, she threw herself into his arms. “Joseph! I saw her! She’s still alive!”

Joseph frowned. “Who exactly did you see?”

Zoie looked white as a sheet, and her whole body was shaking.

Seeing her like this, Joseph gently put a hand on her back to calm her down. “Who could’ve scared you this badly? Could it really be that serious?”

“Carola!” Zoie burst out. “I saw her… She’s not dead!”

Joseph immediately brushed it off with a frown. “You must’ve imagined it. Don’t freak yourself out over something so crazy.”

Zoie frantically shook her head. “No, I didn’t imagine it. I know what I saw! She’s back!”

She was convinced. There wasn’t a doubt in her mind.

Joseph gently cupped her face, locking eyes with her as he spoke slowly and firmly. “Listen to me. She’s dead. I saw her body with my own eyes. I watched as it was pushed into the cremation chamber. There was nothing left, not even ashes. Do you understand what that means?”

Zoie stared at him blankly. “You’re absolutely sure?”

“I’ve never lied to you, have I?” Joseph replied calmly. “We made sure everything was taken care of, neatly and completely. There’s no way she could’ve survived that. People out there might look similar, that’s all. Don’t scare yourself over nothing.”

Little by little, Zoie started to calm down. Joseph was right. Carola being alive just didn’t make sense. It had to be someone who only looked like her. But then, something else crossed Zoie’s mind. “She was with Wesley. Could that mean…”

“No!” Joseph cut her off before she could finish. “That’s all behind us. What you need to focus on now is getting my father to trust you and making sure he keeps turning away from Wesley. That’s what matters. Forget everything else, okay?”

Zoie didn’t say anything but nodded quietly. Still, she couldn’t help but grumble, “Gerald sure changed his attitude fast. Not long ago, he invited us to dinner at Hillside Manor, and now I can’t even get past the front gate. They’ve turned me away so many times.”
