Chapter 1383:

Jaxon couldn’t believe how brutally honest Wesley was being right now. Murmurs spread through the room. The older guests had always known Zoie was the homewrecker, but the younger ones were clueless.

“Holy crap! What a bombshell revelation!”

“Please, it’s old news. Everyone knows Lawrence cheated. Zoie was the mistress.”

“It’s even worse than that. Wesley’s mom was heartbroken, literally. She died from it. Gerald cut Lawrence off completely. It was the biggest scandal in Klathe at the time.”

“No surprise Wesley’s like this. With a father like that, who wouldn’t be cold?”

Zoie stood frozen. She never thought Wesley would expose her like that in front of everyone. Knowing she couldn’t go head-to-head with Wesley, she turned her anger on Elena instead.

“You’ve been filling Wesley’s head with nonsense, haven’t you? A bumpkin like you, always playing games. But no matter how clever you think you are, you can’t change the fact that Lawrence is still his father!”

Elena gently pried Wesley’s hand off her waist.

Wesley’s face tensed right away, but before he could react, Elena reached for his hand again, intertwining their fingers.

Wesley tightened his hold instantly.

Elena’s voice was calm as she said to Zoie, “You and your husband are alike, always causing trouble and blaming everyone else. Honestly, I don’t even feel like wasting my time on someone like you.”

However, before Elena could say anything, Jaxon beat her to it. With his hands buried in his pockets, he said, “Well, well, look who’s pretending to play the peacemaker while subtly stirring the pot. Meddling in Elena’s matters? The nerve! If you are that idle, why not go find a job to keep yourself occupied?”

Lyla’s face stiffened. Her eyes welled up, and she gave

Lyla gave her best sad puppy look.

“Wesley, I was just trying to help. I didn’t want to see you arguing. If Elena didn’t like it, fine, I’ll back off. But how can you just stand there and let someone speak that harshly to me?”

Jaxon practically rolled his eyes into orbit. That was harsh? All he’d done was expose her obvious trick. And what about the insinuation she made about Elena earlier? What a phony—she was practically a master of manipulation! Jaxon threw his hands up like he was surrendering.

“Hey, I said nothing out of turn. Don’t put that on me.”

Lyla batted her wet lashes and looked at Wesley.

“Wesley…”
