Chapter 1387:
He studied her features, still stunned by how familiar she looked. Not a single thing about her had changed. Those deep eyes reminded him so much of Wesley’s, and exactly the reason seeing Wesley always got under his skin. How was it possible for someone thought to be gone for more than two decades to suddenly reappear out of nowhere?
To Lawrence, it all felt like Carola had returned just to settle the score.
“Is this your idea of payback, Carola? Keep dreaming! Dead or alive, it makes no difference to me. If you wanted to stay lost, you should’ve never come back. So why bother showing your face now?”
Lawrence’s polite façade dropped, and his glare turned downright venomous as he stared Carola down. Did she really believe that just because Wesley had taken over the Spencer family, she could parade around like she owned the place?
His stare unsettled Carola, and she instinctively moved back, but his grip tightened, nearly making her stumble. Irritation flashed across her face as she tried to pull her hand free.
“Sir, you’ve got the wrong person. Let me go, or my husband won’t just stand by and watch.”
“Husband?” Lawrence barked out a cold laugh.
“You always knew I never loved you, yet you still forced yourself into my life because of your damned feelings for me. Don’t try to trick me with some imaginary husband. Carola, you’re not crawling back into my life. My heart belongs to Zoie now. She’s the woman I married.”
Carola was completely confused, unable to make sense of anything he was saying. She didn’t know him at all.
“Let her go.” A commanding voice suddenly cut through the tension.
Lawrence barely had time to react before someone grabbed his wrist in a vise-like grip, pain shooting up his arm and forcing him to release Carola.
Clenching his jaw, Lawrence looked up to find himself facing a tall, intimidating man.
“Get your hands off me! Do you even know who you’re dealing with?” he threatened.

Lucian let go of Lawrence and moved to Carola’s side, resting a steadying hand on her shoulder.
“Are you hurt?”
Carola slightly shook her head.
“I’m alright, Lucian. I honestly have no idea who that man is.”
With a gentle touch, Lucian gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
“You’re safe with me.”
Watching Carola rely on someone else sent Lawrence over the edge.
“Unbelievable! Now you’re dragging some guy in to play the role of your husband. Just how far will you go to mess with me?”
Carola’s expression tightened, discomfort growing as Lawrence continued to glare at her with disdain.
Lucian calmly shifted, putting himself squarely between Carola and Lawrence’s hostile gaze.
