Chapter 1395:

“Carola is dragging up the past? Does she seriously think we made her life miserable when she gave birth? I didn’t do a thing. You were with me the whole time. You believe me, right?”

Lawrence scoffed coldly.

“Don’t pay her any mind. She’s just trying to justify her own cheating.” Then he faced Carola.

“You’ve got your own guy now, so we’re even. You’ve got no right to accuse me of being unfaithful.”

Carola brushed off Lawrence’s words, but Wesley’s opinion was another matter. She looked at Wesley with care and said, “Wesley, it’s not what you believe. I never wanted to leave you. After I lost my memory, Lucian saved me. At that time, I didn’t even know you existed. Lucian and I…”

The words caught in her throat. Admitting to her son that she and Lucian had been in love felt impossible.

Luckily, Wesley spoke before the silence got too heavy.

“You don’t have to explain. Who you’re with is up to you.”

Carola’s lips quivered, wishing he’d call her “Mom,” but she didn’t have the courage to ask. Since the DNA test proved they were family, he hadn’t used that word even once. The thought made her heart ache.

Lucian wrapped his arm around Carola, whispering, “Don’t worry. We’re staying in Klathe, and Wesley will come around.”

Carola felt some comfort. She intended to stay in Klathe and prayed Wesley would come to accept her.

Gerald gave Zoie a frosty glare.

“All of you, out.”

Gerald sent everyone away until only Wesley remained.

“How much did you find out?” he asked.

Wesley stood and replied, “Almost everything.” Only one last piece of evidence was missing.

Wesley was nearly out the door when Gerald called after him, “Your mother’s situation wasn’t her fault. Don’t hold it against her.”

Gerald let out a long, heavy sigh. Wesley had been the most innocent one in all of this—blameless, yet robbed of his mother so young and pushed aside by his father.

Gerald wanted to comfort Wesley, but he knew words could never fully heal the pain.

No one understood what Wesley had been through or how much he had endured better than Gerald.

“Never mind. You’re free to go,” Gerald finally said. Still, he was thankful Elena was there for Wesley. At least he hadn’t made the mistake of breaking them up. With Elena beside him, Wesley seemed to carry less of the weight.

As soon as Wesley left the Spencer estate, he called Elena. The moment she answered, he asked, “Where are you?”

Elena was at the local orphanage with Lydia, checking in on the kids from the island. She stepped onto the balcony and replied, “I’m at the orphanage. What’s…”

Wesley didn’t say anything else. He simply said, “I miss you.”
